« on: August 13, 2017, 03:48:47 AM »
Hi,

I have Avast Premier 17.5.203 18/07/2017.

Running under Vista 32 bit.

Task manager shows that it is constantly accessing the hard drive with all other programs shut down why is it doing this please?

Hi Asyn,

Hmm, could be but why does it do that on Vista but not so much on windows 7.

7 appears to be so much less and I have killed as many process's as possible in Vista.

Hi, no idea, sorry. Vista is the worst OS MS ever produced (never used it).

I thought that was Windows ME (Millennium) and I never used that or Vista, so I can't comment on the Task Manager showing constant disk activity.

Hi Guys,

Yeah I know Vista is not much good so I may have to bite the bullet and upgrade to W7.

If you're going to upgrade, why not upgrade. The current version is Windows 10. :)

I have WinXP, Win7 and win10 systems and I don't see this kind of disk activity.

What I find strange is that the avastUI.exe runs the avast User Interface and essentially that doesn't have a scanning function, whilst it may have access to your HDD.  The AvastSvc.exe is the main controller for the scanning engines/shields.

What column name are you viewing to see this activity ?

Hi,

Upgrading to W10 could well be a problem as it is an old Dell laptop!

The column is the process one.

It is the same in W7 but not as active.

Zero cpu usage just HD activity.

Without knowing the specs,I can't give you an opinion. I have a 7 year old Dell 32 bit that does very well on Windows 10.
