Can't enter any text!
« on: August 14, 2017, 03:13:43 PM »
So the other day I was trying to sign into Avast Free Antivirus, but no matter what I tried, I could not type my log-in credentials. I suspect this could have something to do with the fact that I am doing this  on my windows tablet and I have to use the windows virtual keyboard, but I could be completely wrong.  Any help would greatly appreciated.

Sorry but that article doesn't really help. It talks only about Avast mobile security, whereas I am running the PC version.

You are running a "stripped" down version of Windows not the full version.

No, I am definitely running the "full" Windows 10 (in my case, Home Edition).

Well, it appears as though I meet those requirements just fine, which makes sense, since I have been able to install it, run it, and even do a few scans just fine. So I don't it's my specs that's causing the issue with entering text.

No you don't.
It clearly says "Processor Intel P4 / AMD Athlon 64 or above".
The Atom processor (a real cheap and slow cpu from Intel) is NOT listed as supported.

I believe that instruction/information from avast needs updated as far as processors go.

Some of those cheap slow, aren't that cheap nor slow. I have an Intel Atom dual core in my win7 netbook running win7 32bit starter edition. Whilst it isn't ever going to get booked for speeding or be a gaming system, it runs avast just fine.

I know when MS introduced the Surface and Surface Pro, there was a crippled version of Windows installed so it could run on low powered processors.  I don't know if there is something like that going on here.
However, when searching for information on the HP Stream 8 tablet it shows it was originally released with Windows 8.1 with Bing

When I first got this tablet, it had Windows 8.1 on it, but since then I have upgraded to Windows 10. ( Not through the free upgrade, I did a clean install of Windows 10) .

Regarding the Atom CPU, being able to enter text ( to sign in ) is the only hiccup I have had with running Avast, but I don't know if that is a compatibility issue or not.

David, as you know avast needs to update a lot of information ;)
Took them over 6 months to mention that SSE2 is needed on the website. >:(

Anyway according to the info on the site the ATOM is not supported.
Don't know if this is causing the issue or that it is something else.

I suspect it is the virtual keyboard that is causing the problem as avast tries to protect against keyloggers.

Phillip, if possible please connect a normal keyboard to that system and see if it solves the problem.
