Comodo Antivirus version 1.0 has been released. This features realtime protection, a schedular, auto updates, and a feature where you can send suspect files to Comodo via the program. Kind of like avast! through the virus chest but you don't have to have a pop or imap e-mail account.

Their comparison tests seem a bit incorrect, last time I checked Norton 2006 did have a mass worm blocker.

Comodo's old virus prog (Trustix) was a licensed version of Kaspersky. Is this new one a completely new program? I presume Comodo won't be giving away a free version of Kaspersky, will they? They must be starting to write their own virus definitions, mustn't they?

If they're giving away a free version of Kaspersky's AV and the definitions still come from Kaspersky, that would be a very attractive proposition. On the other hand, if they're just starting out in the field for themselves, that would be a whole lot less attractive.

I have just e-mailed Comodo, and asked them those questions ;)

i`ll let you know what they say ;D

I would be stunned if they were using kaspersky definitions :o :o

I too have sent them an e-mail they usually reply in about 20 minutes, if they don't then that means they usually won't reply. I don't think they fear avast! Home/Pro I think it is not on the comparison table because it is not as known unfortunately.

I asked Comodo the following:

1)Is this new free anti-virus a completely new program?

2) Am I correct to presume that Comodo won't be giving away a free version of Kaspersky, would you?

3) Do the definitions for this free programme come from kaspersky?

4) Or Will you be starting to write your own virus definitions?

Comodo replied as follows:

1.Yes. Its completely new program.
2.Correct. We won't.
3.No.
4.Yes. Already writing.

Hi Omar
Thanks for the reply. I know that I'm not putting my system at risk
testing a brand new AV program.
At the moment, can't afford to get an infection on the the only computer
at my disposal.

Can the resident be disabled and it runs as a non-residend (backup) scanner?

I think they've just compared to paid versions. AVG is the Pro one.

Yes it can, but upon reboot I am not sure if the on Access scanner launches again. However when you disable the scanner you do get this icon in the taskbar telling you it has been disabled, and it keeps popping up to alert you, so if you are using avast! for your complete antivirus solution then this could be a little annoying to you.
