can't get rid of “unprotected sensitive documents found”
« on: August 27, 2017, 04:31:12 PM »
I Googled the issue but didn’t find anything directly related.  I ran a smart scan and received this message:

“unprotected sensitive documents found”

The only choice given to me is Resolve All.  There is No description on what will be resolved!  Or what type of ‘documents’ were found (spread sheet? Email?  Word doc?  What?)  Or how they will be resolved…

And I have No option to exit the Resolve All screen, either, so I can’t rescan to see if the same message reappears.

I haven’t downloaded anything recently, so that’s not it.  I haven’t created any new documents recently, either.

I have Scan for Sensitive Data turned off.

And I made sure the program has all latest updates.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Running Win 7 64 Pro.

That sounds like a message from CleanUP.

Nope, it's related to Sensitive Data Shield.

Today is the first day that the message “unprotected sensitive documents found” did stop me from running a Quick Scan.  However I noticed while running the Scan that there is a quadrant in the progress circle for Sensitive Data and once the scan got to that area, the progress bar turned red; I cancelled the scan so I'm not stuck in limbo again.

I have scan for Sensitive Data turned Off in settings, as verified with another check.  What I did was turn it On then back Off and re-tried a scan.

The quadrant for Sensitive Data is now gone.  So it's kind of fixed.

But I'm still curious on what Resolve All would do...  Any ideas?

SDS isn't included in the free version, you would probably see an ad to upgrade.

When "Sensitive Data Scan" is run during SmartScan and it finds some sensitive documents, you should see documents grouped into several groups when the scan is finished. You can click on each category to see the list of documents (incl. file location) and can easily preview these document to see the content.

Sensitive Data Scan is in Free only in SmartScan, in IS+ it is a separate component with advanced scan and protection layer for these documents. As a standalone component (in IS+) Avast has more time to perform deeper analysis -- in opposite to SmartScan, its scan must finish in 2 minutes and scan only some locations/documents, because SmartScan must be fast, it's not regular FullScan.

Sensitive Data Scan is right now offered only for US country (and 50% user base), we're still translating this module to support other countries (Canada/UK/Brazil/France are already prepared).

Thanks Everyone for the very informative info and tips!

And thank you bob3160 for the excellent visual tutorial :)  Very helpful!

I'll just write it off as a quirk that Avast was scanning for sensitive documents even though the option was turned off.  As I mentioned above, what I did was 'reset' it by turning it On then back Off.

Again, thanks!
