Avast Locked Up Computer
« on: December 23, 2003, 04:19:25 PM »
I installed Avast 4 Home according to the instructions. I tried to register but it locked up.  I then tried to run it and it locked up again.  I opend Outlook in XP and got an error message.  So I tried to uninstall Avast using Add/Remove.  Didn't work so I went to the site and got AVclear.  Used that and the program is still on my computer, plus I get an error message when opening Outlook saying a program file .../avast4/ashoutxt.dll can't be found.

Please help. Let's start by removing the program from my system.  How do I get it all off? Thanks.

If you follow the instructions you cannot be at this situation:

1. If you need another licence key, the registration form can be found here.

2. Do you have any other antivirus installed into your system? Did you have in the past? Which one?

3. The Outlook is freezing because of the wrong installation of avast. Maybe you can go to 'About' dialog and un-check the avast! plugin (I'm not sure because I do not use Outlook).

I really suggest you finish your installation correctly then, if you want  :'(, desinstall it by Control Panel.
