How did you get back to v4.6? Is there a link you could let me have, by any chance?

I went back to version 4.6

How did you uninstal the current version completely?

Vlk, my Avast folder seems to be corrupted in some way. I removed the Avast program (or think I did) via the Uninstal facility Awsclear but I'm unable to delete or access the Avast folder left. And I do not understand what the remarks of 'access to everyone' are about, unless it means Administrator rights? Will the .826 removal tool you are producing be any good to get round my problem?

An updated version will be out in about 15 minutes. However, I'm afraid you'll need to uninstall the corrupted install first. We'll give you a tool to do that (most likely, the uninstaller built into the program won't work because of the same reason).

I apologize for the inconvenience. :-[

Thanks
Vlk

Look at the previous pages of this thread, Igor explained it to me.

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving's not for you.

Bargraline: is it _only_ Everyone, or is there also listed Administrator, System, etc.?

WHO set it like that? That's crazy, this is definitely not the default... and it's quite a security breach!
BTW is this XP Home or Pro?

Edit: maybe this system was upgraded from NT4? Is it possible? That would make some sense...

Thx

I've bought this computer last year with Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed on.

The "Program Files" folder that i told about is not the C:\Program Files\
It is on another partition of my hard drive. I've just name it like this.

I had a copy of 4.6 on a CD, I cleaned out all traces of Avast, I mean everything, then installed my cd and ran the old version with no problems.

Yippee!  That revised Aswclear program cleared up my Avast folder problem; now all gone. Thanks!
If I should even think about updating Avast for any further program updates, before at least three days have passed to let obvious bugs get ironed out, feel free to kick my arse, anyone.

I am using AVG until the Avast program installation is fixed and I can safely download .827 (or later whatever the new update is numbered).

I used the updated aswClear.exe and it cleared out Avast. What version of Avast Home do I try now? The one on the main download page?
