Unknown Sources Enabled notification on Android 8
« on: September 13, 2017, 11:24:15 AM »
I've just upgraded to Android 8 and I get a persistent notification that Unknown Sources [are] Enabled. When I tap Resolve it takes me to Settings but there no longer appears to be such a setting. I believe the Play store is now locked to to approved sources only.

Thanks for that. I've found the setting now, but everything is set to "Not Allowed".

So why is Avast telling me that they are allowed?

Also, does Google Play Protect mean I no longer need Avast mobile?

Ofcourse you need a av.
Even in the play store there are malicious apps that slipped through Google's check.

This is just one of the many times they had to do it > https://www.theverge.com/2017/8/29/16219426/google-removes-apps-play-store-hijack-phones-ddos-attacks

Hi, sorry for the inconvenience, the problem is a compatibility issue with Android 8. It has been fixed for the upcoming app version 6.6.0, thanks for understanding.

When will the update be released please?

I have to wonder why the app wasn't tested with developer releases of Android 8! It's been heralded for long enough...

It should go to Beta today, full public release can be expected by the end of this month.

We do prioritize support for the latest Android updates, however, as of today, only 1/1000 of our users has Android 8 installed (Google's own OS distribution chart doesn't even mention Android 8 - https://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html). Sometimes we need to prioritize issues that are affecting a larger swath of users, or those that get the most mentions in Google Play reviews.

Kudos to you for being the earliest of early adopters.

When I worked in software development, as soon as we could get our hands on a dev release of a new version of Office or Windows we'd start testing our stuff. Even knowing most of our customers probably wouldn't upgrade for months or years after the official release.

I wasn't knowingly being an early adopter, the update to 8 just appeared one day.
