Possibility for adware on msn.com?
« on: September 19, 2017, 01:59:49 AM »
So to offer some context, yesterday and today I've had a problem with MBAM premium trial version keeping blocking an IP that apparently belonging to my local area network. I wrote it seperately on this forum (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=208816.0), but later figured it would be better to go directly to MBAM forum itself. But core point being that when I talked about my MBAM problem with people on MBAM subreddit, one guy suggested it would be sign of adware. At first I couldn't recall where could've I catch adware due not visiting any random/suspicious websites in a long time, not to mention downloading any software other than from offical sources. However I remembered that at one point last week I opened up Internet Explorer browser for a short time (and I also used the browser and visited the site today since I was told to check possible rogue addons on all of my browsers, which I did for Microsoft Edge too that also had non-adblocked msn.com/fi-fi as a home page) and the site had visible advertisements there.

Of course, since I hadn't used or even opened IE in years after switching to Firefox and starting to use Adblock and later Noscript addons. So since I didn't have any addons installed into Explorer which allowed it freely to show ads, after hearing the possibilty my MBAm could be acting up because of adware, I began to think that using msn.com/fi-fi website without any kind of addons could've theoretically been the only place for me to directly catch adware. Though site scanners don't show mns.com/fi-fi having any direct alerts.
