FileRepMetagen [PUP] on Akamai?
« on: September 23, 2017, 05:28:36 AM »
Hello,

When I booted up my PC, I was alerted to an Avast warning about a possible PUP. Checking the virus chest, I noticed these:

Name: installer_no_upload_silent.exe
Original location: C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Akamai
Virus: FileRepMetagen [PUP]

The kicker, it happened three times. Maybe it tried alerting me before, but was away from the computer at the time.

Here are the "Last changed" and "Transfer Time" for each.

-9/22/2017 1:26:18AM, 9/21/2017 9:26:29PM
-9/22/2017 5:19:39PM, 9/22/2017 1:22:23PM
-9/23/2017 2:59:42AM, 9/22/2017 11:01:23PM

Though the last one is quite odd, since the time as I'm writing this is 11:24PM on 9/22.

I guess lastly, since it is a PUP, is it flagging a new update that Akamai has put out and it's triggering something within Avast? Though it is also weird to see it happen three times. I've also put in a submit report for the last "flagged" file.

FileRepMetagen = a file with low reputation among avast users / not seen by many avast users, so suspicious

Filerep detection is generally on basis of similarity search.

FilerepMetagen must be something related to file's meta data or the similarity of the latter.
