Outlook Plugin crashes Outlook 2007
« on: April 30, 2006, 06:03:33 PM »
Running on Windows Vista 5365
Running Outlook 2007 (12.0.3820.1002) crashed 3 times upon startup, with the plugin splash screen covering up the error message. Outlook closes. The next time I started Outlook, it asked if I wanted to disable the avast outlook plugin, I clicked yes.

Running avast! 4.7.826

I think you might want to change the title as it would not appear to be crashing Office 2007 ?

Outlook 2007 will also be a beta product so there might well be issues, although this is the first time I have seen this in the forums.

I would also suggest you do a manual program update as avast is now on 4.7.827 as there were a couple of issues in the 826 build which have been corrected. I don't know if this is directly related, but it would be best to have the latest version before trying to fault find.

Was there any detailed error message (having e.g. the faulting module name and address)?

Is this the Outlook beta TR1?

Also, since you're running Vista, can you please open Control Panel, go to the "Problems" applet (or however it's called, I can't remember from the top of my head, but it's the applet that lets you review your crashes, new in Vista) click the crash in question, and let me know what it says?

Thanks

it appears I had other driver issues, my USB KVM mouse's driver was causing vista to be unstable, and it happened to manifest during my testing of Outlook 2007.  I apologize.

I'll have vista 5381 loaded later tonight and try again with Outlook 2007 + avast 4.7.827

Vista 5381, Outlook 2007 (Mar 2006 release)

3. Installed avast 4.7.827
4. rebooted, avast ran initial scan at boot time. noticed alot of files it does not have permission to access.
5. ran outlook first time, launched OK, saw that plugin did start, configured new email account, did a send-receive and Outlook crashed.
6. launched outlook again, asked to start in safe mode, said no, crashed.
7. launched outlook again, asked if it should display the avast plugin, said no, outlook crashed.

i have the same problem.  had it since the new version of outlook 2007, version 12.0.3820.1002.  and the error info is the same as above.  it has to do with the pst files.  something is unstable in mspst32.dll and casuing outlook to crash.  also, outlook is connected to an exchange account, so the pst is loaded for archive purposes. if one  pst is loaded, it is mostly ok, but ocassionally will crash.  if two are loaded is crashes much more often.  if i even try three outlook won't start.  even without avast installed it can't handle multiple pst files well, but without avast it never crashes with only one loaded.

also, i am not running vista, but am running winxp x64.  this problem occurred with avast v4.6.x, 4.7.817 and 4.7.827.

i have just tried telling avast not to scan mspst32.dll and the .pst file i am currently using to archive into.  hopefully by bypassing a scan of them when ouotlook starts up or tries to access them, it won't crash.

r0b3rt, I'd like to see the memory.hdmp and minidump.mdmp files. Could you please upload them to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming? (please note that anymous users have only WRITE, no READ access to the ftp site).

Thanks

How I fixed mine
« Reply #10 on: February 03, 2007, 02:45:02 AM »
Big thank you to DavidR
My Avast was at 4.7.7xx
My OS is XP sp2 with all the latest patches
Office 2003 Pro
After upgrading to Office 2007 ver 12.0.4518.1014

Started up Outlook and it promptly hung.....
Same issue, after closing OL thru task manager and reopening OL stated it had a problem with the Avast add-in.
I disabled it, and finding this posting

I think you might want to change the title as it would not appear to be crashing Office 2007 ?

Outlook 2007 will also be a beta product so there might well be issues, although this is the first time I have seen this in the forums.

I would also suggest you do a manual program update as avast is now on 4.7.827 as there were a couple of issues in the 826 build which have been corrected. I don't know if this is directly related, but it would be best to have the latest version before trying to fault find.

I followed the suggestion to update/upgrade the app to the newest ver........mine is now 4.7.942
After re-enabling the Add-in and shutting down OL and restarting it it loaded fine
So far so good

Hope this helps

Im running Win XP Home SP2 and have exactly the same problem. Had to disable plugin before Outlook 2007 would install user prefs and data. I have Office 2007 Enterprise and it is not a beta version. All working fine with plug in disabled.

I'm running Avast Home 4.7.942. Any advice to allow the plug in to work would be appreciated. I have used Avast for 3 or 4 years now and have been very pleased with it having used several others previously.

Do you have any dump files that Vlk asked about in the previous messages? If yes, can you upload them to the FTP?

I get this same issues, running win XP SP3, I just installed office 2007, and after I configured my exchange server via control panel, outlook comes up always with crash report message about avast office plug in issue, I have latest office, xp critical updates and avast updates. I also had to just say to disable this plugin, what am I loosing, it looks like it is the ms office scripting plugin? or is ti the entire email plug in, and I am now completely un protected. Anyone know? Thanks
