v.17.7.2314

MEMU - www.memuplay.com
NOX - www.bignox.com

with this new Avast update, BOTH emulators freeze during loading IF hyper-v is enabled from bios.

WORKAROUND:
Avast... Settings...Troubleshooting...and DISABLE HARDWARE VIRTUALIZATION!!!
after that, emulators run correctly WITH hyper-v.

I think this is an Avast bug. When will it be solved ?

Forum Tech Team:

re: Avast Free Antivirus Quick Scans

Any news regarding scheduling Quick Scans?  Your latest update enabled us to once again schedule Quick Scans to run automatically on a same-day basis, although still only on a same-day basis. However, a few days ago, I noticed that even same-day basis scheduling had stop working (again), which means I now can no longer schedule any automatic Quick Scans at all.  Is the original bug back?  Is a fix expected?  Will we ever be able to schedule automatic Quick Scans?  Sorry, but hoping for a fix or workaround.

Thanks very much for whatever help or insight or news you can provide.

Thanks for version 17.7.2314, it seems to update and run fine on Windows XP.

None of my custom settings were wiped out. :)

I am not seeing any "Driver Updater". :)

A strange thing to report, however: if I set the Smart Scan to scan only for "compatibility issues" and then run it, Smart Scan says "All your scanners are turned off".  Has the compatibility issues scan been removed?

UNABLE TO MANAGE VIRUS CHEST FILES

I have verified that i have the "new 2314" version.  The virus chest now has a link directly on the protection tab or is accessible by right clicking tray icon or clicking antivirus on protection tab then selecting virus chest.  Great, 3 ways to get there.  My problem is that I cannot "manage" files in the virus chest.  The down arrow button next to delete does nothing.  I want to check a file on the virustotal website, but following the instructions from help, "Tick the box next to the file in Virus Chest, then click the arrow next to the Delete button" does nothing, gives no option to restore or send for analysis or anything.  I don't want to delete the file yet.  Is this a glitch (great tv series from Australia btw, Glitch, 2 seasons, check it out) that will be corrected? or do i need to reinstall something?

Strange, I've been using Avast since 2003.
I still use the free version today. In 2003, it was Windows XP
Now it's windows 10. Avast worked back then and it's still working now.
I may not like all the added baggage but the AV portion has gotten better over the years.
I find it strange that College students need help installing and maintaining the updates of their software.
But, to each their own.

Hi Bob,

I also used Avast for more than 10 years now... even on Win98SE.
Avast being better (or not?) can be concluded out of this forum... and I conclude not...
Avast may be better IF it works as it should... and that is the big problem.
Active users on this forum can clearly see that there are too many malfunctions and problem-cases in Avast.
This forum should be 10 times smaller if Avast was really OK.

College students should "not be concerned" about maintaining the updates of their software.
Just as in factory/compagny-use, they should only be worried about their work getting done in time.
If any update can cause problems to interfere with their work, it should be blocked... or at least delayed.
That's why users should not update themselves, but let an administrator doing updates at self-decided times and places.

I only want updates being done when the PC's are at home during a holiday-period, and when I have the time to do that...
I'm always checking after every software-update if everything works again afterwords.
That can only be done at home, since the university-network is protected behind vpn... and we should login at the site.
Rebooting at distance looses remote-connections... and is not workable in case of problems during or after updates.

Since the studies are all about "Medical Sciences"... students have more things to do than trying to solve PC-problems occuring after bad updates.
This may cause more damage then, as they are no computer-experts... and the ICT-team does not help with personal equipment at the student-home.
As you see, there are multiple reasons not wanting any software to update on automatic base... NOT for Windows... NOT Avast... nor any other software.
Doing each update manualy, is the only certainty to know what software causes problems.
All automatic backgound-updates can result in a unusable PC without knowing the cause.
Murphy's law will give problems when you need your equipment the most... which we want to avoid.

Needing help installing and maintaining software-updates is NOT the point...
IF all software-updates were OK... which is NOT the case for Avast... then indeed, they would not need any help.
For the same reason,  I would not be writing this post when Avast was OK...
Also, this forum would be much smaller then and have more positive reactions.
If you see how many bugs still are unsolved "a complete year after release of V17"... I have my questions.
Even long-known and new/stupid bugs stay in the latest releases... making us beta-testers.
Avast should do something to avoid decline, and work on multiple items stated in this forum.
That should all be corrected before introducing new things in AV.

If an unwanted automatic Avast-update can cripple our PC's then I am not the only one on this forum giving reactions...
So there are only two options...
Make Avast realy/always good/trustable and reliable again... or avoid it.

A few years ago, I still adviced Avast to friends and family.
Now, I do not want to loose any friends.
Says enough I think....

@ b111.g222
Since this is a support forum, most of the folks that post in here, have a problem.
I don't intend to write a short novel. I still think that college students are smart enough
to do their own installation of what ever software they decide to add to their systems.
I know my Great Grandchild attending college in Chicago has no problems and doesn't ask for my help.
To each their own.

MartinZ:

Will we ever be able to schedule automatic Avast Free Antivirus Quick Scans, other than on a day-by-day, same-day basis?  I noticed the GUI includes a calendar with check boxes to potentially allow for daily, multiple day, and weekly scans, but no such advance scheduling has ever worked for me.  I've inquired about this issue previously here, but so far haven't received any new info. regarding a fix or upcoming repaired edition.

Thanks.  !

Hi guys I have avast updated to 17.7.2314 with the latest definitions. I have windows 10 Fall Update, Before this issue occurred the issue was not present, when ever i run avast boot time scan and it completes which works perfectly to completion. Soon as the pc restarts and I log back into my desktop I can see all my icons and everything as normal but my start icon stops working as I click on it no menus open, it does nothing. If i click on my task-bar icons no icon will open the program again it does nothing. I have to restart my pc again to get my desktop icons including the start menu working again.

Brand new machine, brand new install of avast, seems like a defo bug
