Upgrade to 4.7.827 causes WIFI network problems
« on: May 03, 2006, 08:12:49 PM »
Iv'e been using avast! not for a couple of years and is very satisfied with the product!

But, when ugradeing from 4.7.817 to 4.7.827, this causes my WIFI connection to fail.
I have tried to solve the problem in different ways, but the only way I have found to solve it was to use "Windows System Restore", and go back to 4.7.817 version of avast.

Anyone who have had a similar experience?

Were there any warnings when the wifi connection failed ?
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access.

I haven't heard of any wifi issues associated with the 4.7.827 release in the forums (I don't use wifi so I can't help in that direction). I don't think that there was anything in the latest release that could effect the wifi connection.

Worst case scenario I would suggest a clean install of the latest version.
Download the latest version and save it to your hard disk, download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save that also.
Uninstall using add remove programs, reboot, run the Uninstall utility, reboot, install the latest version, reboot.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Thanks for your answer.

Regarding firewall I am not using Windows' own, but there is a firewall in my D-link router. I have not done any changes in the settings lately which could affect the problem I have. And, it has working fine until 4.7.817 of Avast!

I tried to uninstall/install after your instructions, but the problem still are there.

I have found a way to work around this problem:
-Set Avast! Antivirus "Service" to Manual in "Control Panel"
-Start the service after Windows has started completely

It seems like Avast! is doing something at startup which creates the problem.

Seems like when disabling the "Test memory at application start-up" in the Avast! settings the problem is solved!  :)

While not using a D-Link router (we are using Linksys WRT54GL) we have not experienced any connectivity problems following the installation of build 827.

I am trying hard to imagine how the "Test memory at application start-up" can be a solution to a WiFi issue since it only runs (AFAIK) when the main on demand scanner is invoked.
