So the computer did not see the camera, ie, Adobe Photoshop couldn't get the pictures from it.

If you mean Photoshop Album this utilizes Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) and I believe the Kodak DC series of cameras is WIA capable.  You can just click Get Photos in the tool bar after specifying the drive letter in Edit/Preferences/Camera or Card Readers.  ie You might not need the pop up dcfssvc.exe provides when you connect your camera.

If this works you might want to consider just removing dcfssvc.exe from your computer.

I would also either take David's advice about a multi-engine scanner or at least scan with Ewido (available here http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ )

Edit:  You may have to uninstall the Kodak Imaging software for WIA to work.

Also, here is a list of WIA supported cameras http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en;293168 (look under Eastman Kodak).

Thanks very much mauserme for your help.  You must have spent a lot of time
researching information on this troublesome matters. Ths Microsoft WIA couldn't
solve my problem because I am still using Windows 98.

I will kook into Ewido and report later.

The next thing I will do:
rename the file "dcfssvc.exe" to something like "dcfssvc.old"
    uninstall Avast 4
    reinstall Avast 4
    do a full scan
rename the file back to "dcfssvc.exe"
Do you have any thought?
If you add the "dcfssvc.exe" file to the ignore lists as has been suggested, then you shouldn't have to do this.

Sorry, Ewido won't run on Win98.  Try A- Squared instead

Ad-aware,
spy-bot search and destroy
all give me clean reports.

I used to have, Antivir and Norton Antivirus which also didn't report "dcfssvc.exe" is a virus.

I suppose you're using Antivir, NAV and avast ONCE AT A TIME and not simultaneously...

Did you try Jotti/VirusTotal as mentioned in the false positives sticky and if you believe it still to be a false detection have you sent to virus @ avast.com as requested by Igor ?

Of course, I used NAV form 2000 to April 29, 2006.
Antivir from April 29,2006 to May 3, 2006
Avast4 from May3 up to now.
Antivirus programs cannot stand by side, I was told.

I sent the file to Avast for analysis earlier today. Hope to hear from them soon.

Ordinarily you don't hear from them unless they require further information, just periodically scan the file after VPS updates to see it the FP has been corrected.
