Hi all,

I recently installed avast on my computer and removed norton antivirus.  Problem is I can't open any programs now.  Error message is a windows message that says " program encountered a problem and needed to close...."   What is wrong? What can I do?

How did you uninstal Norton? If it was through add remove then alas Norton has not gone - yet.  You need to download the Norton removal tool specific to your product.  If you use the search facility at the top of the forum it should return some (!) threads withe link on.  Welcome to our world

Ok I used the tool but am still getting the error messages.  I got a "generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem....

Do I have to uninstall avast first, then use the tool or something.  Is this safe?

Yes uninstall avast use the tool - reboot - install avast
