AVAST Sandbox problem.
« on: October 23, 2017, 06:10:21 PM »
Hello Everyone,
I need help with the Sandbox component of the Avast Internet Security Suite. I have version 17.7.2314 installed on Windows 10 64bit, both Home and Pro versions. I also have many browsers installed, the ones I use more often are Firefox 64bit 56.0 and Chrome 64bit 62.0.3202.62.
I setup the Sandbox component so that, in the Web browsers tile, I have the following situation:
Save trusted downloaded files outside the sandbox – unchecked.
Exclusions – Nothing checked.
Cache web browser’s files (sandbox will not be automatically deleted) – unchecked.
When I try to launch the browsers in the sandbox, neither of them work as expected.
Chrome seems to work just fine except that, when I close the sandbox, I find both the history and the bookmarks saved also in the not-sandboxed version of the browser. I expected the changes made on both the history and bookmarks to be dropped closing the sandbox.
Firefox is giving even more troubles. Most of the times, it will not access the internet and, when I try to close the sandboxed app, it will close just for an instant and then open again. I have to restart the PC to clean the sandbox. Sometimes, but very rarely, it will behave as described for Chrome.
Has anyone experienced the same issues?
Thank you for all the help that you may provide.

Unfortunately fix for Chrome is not included in latest 17.7 release, but will be present in 17.8. which is scheduled for November 12 2017.

Thank You for your answer.
I tried Internet Explorer in the Sandbox and it also saves both history and bookmarks after closing it. So the problem, for me, seems to be on every sandboxed browser. Firefox is the one which gives more problems, but the others do not work as expected.
Have you tried Firefox or Internet Explorer, can you tell me if you experienced the same behavior?
Thank you very much.

Please anyone,
it would be helpful to know if it is a common behavior of the Sandbox or if you do not experience the issues described.
Thank you.

Hi, no problems here, FF ESR runs smooth in the sandbox. Ciao

Thank you very much.
Can you please tell me if you are able to virtualize also the bookmarks and the history so that everything is dropped after you close the sandbox?
Also, do you use the same Web browser options that I use?
Regards.

Hi,
when you go to Settings, Components, Sandbox, Web Browsers there are some options that I specified in my original thread and quoted above.
Please let me know if you can virtualize the bookmarks and the history.
Thank you very much for your support.

The Firefox problem also happens in my Windows 10 tablet, it won't load any website and and can't kill the sandboxed process until I restart the tablet.

Here is the tablet specs:

- Intel Atom Z3735G @ 1.33GHz
- 1 GB RAM
- Windows 10 1703 (15063.674)
- AIS 17.7.2314

I can't test in my laptop since it doesn't have the sandbox module installed (using sandboxie).

The settings that I use are the same as the OP.

Thank you for the support.
I reinstalled Avast from scratch and reinstalled Firefox. I realized that Chrome worked fine in the sandbox (virtualizing history and bookmarks) until I launched Firefox. Firefox behaved as usual and I had to restart my PC as always to kill the sandbox. After that, Chrome is also bugged and, while it can still access the web, it begins to fail in virtualizing the history and the bookmarks. I have the exact same behavior on my desktop (I7 4790, 16Gb Ram, Windows 10 Home 1709) and my laptop (I7 5500U, 8Gb Ram, Windows 10 Pro 1709).
I will try to do some other tests and post the results.
Regards.
