Avast Firewall dropping Input Director connection
« on: March 20, 2018, 03:15:22 PM »
Hey guys,

I have a problem with Avast Firewall and Input Director (https://www.inputdirector.com). Input Director allows you to share a single keyboard and mouse with more computers. The machine which has the keyboard and the mouse physically connected is called master, other machines are slaves. Input Director is working fine until there's a short period of inactivity from the user.

After a few seconds of inactivity (no input from the keyboard or mouse), when the input is being sent to a slave machine (i.e. the machine which doesn't have the keyboard and the mouse physically connected), the input hangs (the slave machine stops receiving the keyboard & mouse input).

It looks like Avast Firewall is dropping some opened connection if there's no activity for a short period. If I'm continuously using the keyboard or mouse, it's working fine.

I have even tried to manually configure packet rules with no success. The connection works initially, it's just dropped after a short period of inactivity. There's no issue when I'm using the built-in Windows Firewall.

It was reported for example here: https://forum.avast.com/?topic=197725.0.

I have Avast Internet Security 18.2.2328.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix it, please?
