Latest Avast version (17.2.2288) - Wireless Device Conflict?
« on: March 19, 2017, 10:52:45 PM »
Avast self-installed its latest version (17.2.2288, build 17.2.3419.64) onto my PC yesterday. Since then I have found that my wireless device (Cambridge Audio Minx airplay speaker) has lost its connection and, for the life of me, I cannot reconnect it.  It may be coincidental, but I wonder if the latest Avast download may be to blame.

There is a precedent: last year I discovered that the Avast Firewall was preventing me from accessing my Cambridge Audio Mix airplay speaker from iTunes.  I resolved the issue by disabling the Avast Firewall and installing the Windows Firewall.  The Avast Firewall remains disabled but now I've lost the wireless connection to the speaker - and to my Canon printer.

Anybody else having the same problem?  Any suggested solutions?  (As an aside, the Cambridge Audio set-up requires me to click on a wireless network connection icon in my toolbar.  I have no such wireless icon on my toolbar, only one that reveals my local area network connection.)

Many thanks.

Ian

Remove the Avast Firewall settings> Components > Firewall > Uninstall Component
You may need to re-install the Wireless Device software/Driver

Avast needs to do something about this conflict between the Firewall component and Air Play. I've just upgraded to Windows 10 and found that I can't turn on Windows Defender Firewall while Avast Antivirus is installed, despite the fact that I've turned off the Firewall component.  So there's the choice of using Airplay or having the Avast Antivirus Firewall turned on -  not both at the same time.

Create your own thread. Avast Firewall works fine with AirPlay if configured correctly. You can also remove Avast Firewall via components and keep using the anti-virus thus enabling Windows Firewall.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit • Avast Free (latest stable version) •  Malwarebytes 4 Premium (On-Demand) • Windows Firewall Control • Google Chrome • LastPass • CCleaner • O&O ShutUp10 •

Thanks - I do appreciate your response. I'll create another thread, but as a novice I would love to know the correct configuration to allow AirPlay to be used with the Avast Firewall on. Uninstalling the Avast Firewall component does not allow me to enable the Windows Defender firewall, as it appears Windows sees the Avast AV and assumes that it has the firewall installed and on.

The second you turn off the Avast firewall, you can turn on the Windows firewall.
