i doubt that thanks.
the opening screen where it says you can turn it off would have mentioned the lower detection capability.
I assume you work for the virus company and want to help the company.

The Gear Icon is a icon representation for Settings, that is on the bottom of the main UI page.

The gear icon appears on some underlying pages, but data sharing is in the main AvastUI > Settings > Privacy - Participate in data sharing.

"what else should i turn off"
What are you trying to achieve ?

I rarely hear any sounds:
again it depends on what sounds you are seeking to quiet, why and when, etc. ?

For the most part helpers on the forum are avast users just like yourself - Avast Team members have 'Avast Team' in their details to the left of their post/s

<snip images>

My screenshot is an 'extract' of the AvastUI > Protection > 'Antivirus' tab, so it isn't going to be the same as yours.

I tried to answer your two questions, one of which has insufficient information to know what you are trying to do.

Individual posts (that you create) have a modify option in the actual post, there is also an icon sheet of paper with pencil (same as the one beside the modify option).

A little time browsing the user interface would be very helpful.

You're welcome.

You really need to give more information or we are unable to give a detailed answer.
What software (file name and location),  what message/popup and what scan were you running or doing at the time ?

how is that done in avast.

In windows explorer, right click on the file/folder that you want to scan and select Scan selected items for viruses.

I haven't used AVG in almost 14 years, so I can't help in that regard.
However, you would have to have removed AVG completely before installing Avast or they could conflict.

Well I have just run a right click scan of the Downloads in my last image and I don't get any screen until the scan has completed.  In my case it has found no issues, this results in a small toaster popup from the bottom right of the screen (attached) and I can click the Details button if there is a need to.

What avast version did you install, the latest being 17.7.2314 ?

In an earlier version of avast you used to get the main UI window open up and lots of complaints about this and it reverted to how it was before.  No scan screen displayed, it got on with the scan in the background only when the scan completed did you get any screen and in the latest version the toaster popup.
