Fast scan are now gone?
Yep. (Guess you mean Quick Scan)
Why? Why did they removed it?   ??? ??? ???
No idea, but you can always set up a custom scan that fits your needs.

Where are you looking, it is still my UI > Protection > Antivirus > Other scans ?

Ha, looks like the Premier version is getting short changed.

Great/strange that Avast would run two different UIs, harder to help those with the paid version/s ?

Though we don't know if    TheOwner is also using Premier.

Not related to Premier. The GUI can be changed independently of version.
Seems that's what happened (at least to some) here...

@DavidR,
The latest beta also doesn't have the fast scan in the free version.
So you're celebration I'm afraid is probably not going to last for long.

The quick scan has been getting phased out for a while now. It won't be there when v17.9 stable is released. The smart scan will be the quick scan option. That'll effect all editions (Free, internet Security and Premier).

A quicker scan is called no scan. :)

Excellent update! Smooth and quiet improvements and upgrades. I am so delighted I discovered AVAST products a few years ago. They are committed only to forward and
upward movement. If they were on the US stock exchange, I would certainly invest and buy. I am a Premier owner and AVAST does all of my cyber security! Keep this momentum, team, you have got my support.

Personally I don't care for on-demand scans - but to say that the Smart Scan is quicker than the Quick scan is plain wrong.  If the user doesn't do a custom install then many components will be included in the Smart Scan.  That or they need to also customise the Smart Scan settings.
The quick scan does a very limited 'antivirus' scan, were the Smart Scan runs a whole slew of different scans. Collectively I believe that is longer

I'm not celebrating, it is/was something I rarely did outside of beta testing (and I've pretty much given up on that) or question in the forums. On-demand scans are much depreciated in an on-access AV.

You are correct. Smart scan has additional component scans which would ofcourse add time to the scan. My point was the the virus scan incorporated in the smart scan is a limited scan which is the similar to the quick scan. The other components will add time.

Starting to get away from On Demand scans, I used to do On Demand scans weekly, but lately only do it when beta testing on my test machine, and otherwise just let Real time protection do the scanning

Now if I could stop myself from thinking I should be using Defender on a few systems, no wonder I have so many PC errors and problems off and on, I must get my brain to use 1 antivirus and stick with it lol

Smart Scan is nothing like Quick Scan. The scan scope is a light year apart. Not to mention it doesn't use any heuristics or emulation. To save seconds. My crappy netbook with Atom and 2GB of RAM does the scan in seconds even with high heuristics and emulation. Quick scan takes a minute. Removing it with excuse it's about "saving time" is just silly. We have on-access scan, what's the point of an on-demand scan when it hardly checks anything and even when it does it's using so limited scope it's a miracle if it ever detects anything that on-access hasn't already anyway.

Quick scan on the other hand uses heuristics and emulation and has a wide scope. It actually makes sense having it there.
