So I have been using Avast Anti virus free for a long time. I have ALWAYS used silent mode because I dont want to be spammed with with garbage from avast.

Either this is a bug, or if not it needs to be changed.

When Silent mode is engage, and you right click on a file to scan it, NOTHING HAPPENS! You have to turn off silent mode, and NOW the message of the scan shows up in the bottom right corner.

I HATE IT! What was wrong with the way it was before..

Looking for these fixes.

Silent Mode to show when a scan is completed if I manually right click and scan a file.
Return the message back to the center of the screen and NOT in the bottom right.

Why were these horrible changes made?

This is intentional.

Silent mode blocks all notifications so when you run a context scan (right click scan) you will see nothing.

Silent mode should be enabled when gaming etc but not all the time and you will be missing malware alerts too...

The Free version has ads which can be disabled in the paid version. Avast needs to make revenue from free versions.

Why would you have an option to scan a file manually and NOT give a result of the scan. Silent mode or not I am issuing a command to scan a file and need a result.

Silent mode or not I have asked to find out the status of a file and now I am not given one. So your saying now if I scan a file and no status is given its ok to open it? Sounds like your company is trying to infect peoples computers. WHY give the option at all to right click and scan a file then?

Serious someone need to reconsider this horrible change. Silent mode or not this is a bad choice.

I don't work for Avast.

Silent mode = Disable notifications

When you give the command to run a scan you would normally get a result, however, silent mode overrides that since results are given as notifications. Without silent mode, the scan results come. I would disagree about the statement of trying to infect computers due to the fact the File/Web/Behaviour Shields are running as well as CyberCapture/Cloud reputation services. If the file was indeed malicious, it would have been blocked before being accessed or modified by the File shield.

I can get this escalated to the Avast team but Silent/Game mode shouldn't be used as a way to stop ads and I doubt this behavior will change.

LOL so changing something that has always worked the way it has isn't a bug?

Silent Mode means silent. If you want to see a notification, don't select Silent Mode.

This option used to be called Silent/Gaming Mode and it has worked this way for as long as I can recall (silent - no interaction with the avastUI interactive elements).

If the true purpose if to use it for Gaming Mode, then avast will automatically enter Gaming Mode if you are using a full screen Game.  Otherwise there is no need to check the Silent Mode option.

But silent has nothing do with scanning a file on command and it not displaying anything..

Try this..

Turn on Silent mode.
Right click and scan a file from the content menu.

NOTHING HAPPENS! No message is displayed that the file has been scanned.

Silent means nothing pops up normally. But if you issue a command to scan a file manually, it should give a result.

Silent has nothing to do with this issue. ITS BROKEN!

<snip>

As I said in my previous post, this option used to be called Silent/Gaming mode and essentially that meant no interaction, no popups/sound/Interaction from the UI and user whilst this option was enabled to interfere with the game.

In that regard, nothing has changed.

I have no need to try that as I don't use silent mode and it is acting as I expect it to.

BOB I am talking about with SILENT mode turned on. You don't get that window when you scan files manually with a right click.

Turn on Silent mode and then right click and scan a file. I get NOTHING.. What do you get?

The fact is with silent mode you get no notifications. The scan results come in form of a notification so you need to disable silent mode.

Time to read before posting. I stated that this is what you see without silent mode.
I've also stated that Silent Mode turns off ALL notifications.
Your choice. If you want to see the notification, DON'T use Silent Mode.

Does anyone understand that before this version Silent Mode and scanning a file WORKED! I always use slient mode and now when you use Silent mode and scan a file it does nothing. This is NOT correct behavior from the way it has worked since the day Avast was released.

Why would you scan a file in silent mode and NOT be given a message that the file has been scanned and no issues found?
