rexmale,

sorry to persist but I was wondering if you ever used, for example, Norton Antivirus on your system.  It is notoriously difficult to remove and, once used, may haunt you yet.

Given that the transparent intercepts are not working for you then I will defer to the avast team on whether there are any readily available tools that can help troubleshoot.

One other option for you would be to set up your mail clients to go directly to the avast mail proxies.

My good friend Tech does a great job of advising Win98/ME users of how to set up mail client(s) so that they can use the avast mail proxies directly to intercept the mail.

Tech ... over to you.

No, I haven't used Norton Antivirus, only AVG.

Well, ...

If you have Windows 98\Me, the change of the login settings is normal while using avast. See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=display;board=2;threadid=7913;start=0#msg64228

With Win98 SE you should have:

pop3 server= smtp server = 127.0.0.1
username = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com
smtp authentication enabled and the username there = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com

But in this case, something should be wrong, something is conflicting...
The best things in life are free.

rexmale,

yes, you already said that use Windows XP SP2.  However we have already established that something in your system is preventing the avast "transparent" intercept from working.

Nobody here has come up with any next steps to help you determine what that something is.

You wanted a workaround - I was proposing something like the settings used by Win98/ME users (for whom the "transparent" intercept is not possible).

So if and until someone steps up to help solve the problem with the inercept and if you want your POP3 mail scanned by avast here is what to do:

In your mail client:

Set the mail server as:  localhost

Set the POP3 port as:   12110

Set the userid field:      youruserid#your.real.mailserver

where, of course you will replace youruserid and your.real.mailserver with
the setttings for your real mail account.

Are your avast Internet Mail provider settings ok?
Which one? what to setting up?

2) Is your email header with the lines X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0XXX-X, XX/XX/2005), Inbound message and X-Antivirus-Status: Clean? (Right click the message, choose Properties and Details). After you check your settings, as they're not there now.
Do not have that lines

3) Are clean notes added at the bottom of the email? (Internet Mail provider settings). The same as above...
No notes

I'll ask what may seem to be a silly question. Is the box checked to insert the notes? This isĀ  what the question above seems to be asking.

This is not turned on by default. To check, left click the "a" ball, highlight Internet Mail, click customize. Make sure the boxes to inset notes are checked on both the pop and smtp tabs.

It never was about inserting the notes ... reading through the thread should have included the log that showed avast was not able to intercept the messages at all.

Ah well, hotpop may be a little different.

I just set myself up with a hotpop account ... tested it and the message is being scanned by avast with the configuration I suggested to you ... one slight change in the userid field:

youruserid@punkass.com#pop.hotpop.com

Where, of course, you replace youruserid and punkass.com with information appropriate to you.

Lest anyone feel I am being offensive ... punkass.com is one of the domain names offered by hotpop.

Hi Alanrf,

I tried with myid@hotpop.com#pop.hotpop.com or myid@punkass.com#pop.hotpop.com, but still did not work.

Here is my log (slightly edited for posting limits) showing the messages scanned by avast.

May I see your log?

IMHO there is something that not only prevents the automatic redirection to the mail scanner, but also block the mail scanner from connecting to mail servers.

Have you tried to search for the presence of the AVG's file avgemc.exe ?

Hi vojtech,

I have searched the windows registry and can not find the avgemc.

After I turn on the Internet Mail -> Customize -> Advanced -> Show detailed info on performed action, now avast scanning my outgoing and incoming email, and I can find the avast signature on the email header.
