Avast showing one shield disabled
« on: February 15, 2013, 11:47:22 AM »
I have the Internet Security product and when I right click on the avast icon in the tray next to the clock in avast! shields control it offers me enable all shields with the words 1 disabled in brackets.  Doesn't tell me which one is disabled.  I opened the user interface and went to shields and each of them is showing as RUNNING.  Not sure whether RUNNING is the same as 'enabled' or whether it could be RUNNING but disabled.

How do I find out which shield is disabled?  Also more importantly why as I have not changed any of the default settings.  I'm still very new to the software to try any of that stuff.

Thanks

Nexar

Try a repair of avast:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

Win10 x64, APS (always latest version)
Avast Mobile Security (always latest version)

1] Uninstall avast through control panel.

2] Run the uninstall tool : https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

3] Reboot the system

4] Install the latest avast version : https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=179855.0

I have the same issue now over 120 days after this was posted. And I've seen many others reporting similar issues.

Maybe it's time for Avast to figure out and address what is causing this in the first place rather than people should keep reinstalling the product...?

Replying to a topic that is almost two and a half years old isn't great, much has changed in that time.  This shield issue has recently crept back in and has been reported and acknowledged as a bug and is being addressed.

I don't know what avast version you are using, but I'm using 18.3.2333 and I'm not experiencing it.

If you need any further information, I suggest you create your own new topic and give information on your avast version and OS, etc.

I followed the instructions how to uninstall Avast and then remove it using the Avast Removal Tool from Safe Mode. After that I was informed by Windows my computer had some issues which Windows would try to fix automatically. Unfortunately it failed meaning I couldn't get into Windows anymore.

So happy I always keep good image backups which saved me and will think twice what AV software to use going forward. I've been using Avast for many, many years but lately there's been a bit too many issues in combination with the constant "Why don't you buy this module as well..." ads constantly popping up.

As for version used I assume Avast will always make sure I'm on the latest version with automatic updates enabled...? As for OS I'm on Win 10 Pro with all the latest MS updates.

Never mind, I'll handle this myself.

If this is what you're posting about,

It's a known glitch that doesn't effect your protection and will be fixed with the next update.

I have used Avast for a lot of years. No problem, did the job. I suppose the beginning of the end was merging with AVG. I was one of many using AVG with an AMD processor who had all their files wiped (identified and a virus?) and then ate into the OS...and it was gone.
Now, last couple of months, two 64 bit computers suddenly giving BSOD....and I gotta tell ya in over 20 years of MicroSlime usage I have never had a BSOD. (yet the 32 bit machines are fine)
I read on these very forums of many with incompatible Avast and MS issues....blamed on "other processes"...but you turn them all off in msconfig.....including Avast...and it works...and as soon as your enable one AVG process, it's BSOD. I played with it on the computer until it works...sort of...and must be the latest update....and warning flag....so rebooted this morning...and it is now this afternoon and I give up. Which is why I left this machine ON all the time...and Avast now requires reboot...I have again fully uninstalled Avast using your utility, and am using something else.
You would think this would not be rocket science...but maybe it is. Rockets do blow up on the launch pad...and crash.

So, maybe someone will notify me when you get it sorted and I will re-load.....but I really am not expecting much any more.

As Bob Hope sang...Thanks for the Memories.

After reading lots of good things about Bitdefender I went that route yesterday and so far I'm very happy with the replacement.
