Image 1 shows current VPS update state as 171204-2, note that the latest update received time, when I first brought the win10 laptop out of sleep.
According to the screenshot, you need to reboot your system.

Interesting, I thought I already had 2318, I must be getting into bad habits, hanging back on program updates ;)

Interesting, the program update after restart has got rid of the old VPS sub-folders but the latest VPS is still 171204-2.  A manual VPS update still reports I have the latest version.

After the in UI program update I got the slew of popups, confirm your protection level (well I still have 172 days left on this registration).  After confirming my protection level as avast free, I get another in your face popup 'Your loyalty pays off' with no nice 'No Thank you' option.

Used the big X to kill the window and bang up comes another one 'Not ready to commit' try a 60 day free trial (and we all know where that leads.  Again no nice 'No Thank you' option only start free trial, once more it is the ugly exit the big X.

I can understand marketing push when you first install, but when you have 172 days remaining on existing registration. But why are we still getting this mess when registration is a thing of the past.

When my computer finished starting this morning VPS had updated to 171207-0.  Even better, all shields are on without having to manually start them.  Often on this one machine of 3, at least 1 (sometimes 2) shields are disabled.

Looks like someone reset the server farm. ;)

Now my win10 system and XP pro system on avast free 17.8.2318 are showing 171207-0, someone must have turned on the power at the update server farms.

Not on my win10 system it is showing 171212-0, but like before it is very tardy on clearing old VPS sub-folders.

Thanks. A manual update just took me also to 171212-0. In the scheme of things it doesn't really matter, so long as the streaming updates are coming through, but my impression is that the VPS is also used to update the list of current programs and several companies update at this time of month which is why I was checking.

You're welcome.

There is an ongoing Beta session, so it may not be long before a program update.  I think most companies do updates at this time to sell the 2018 version, is this more of a revenue thing than a real need to do a program update.

Avast has been doing small program updates throughout the year, plus the policy of purchasing a license for a year (or more) that allows all program update within that year isn't the same as having one big program update a year.

Looks like this might be happening again.  On Dec 13 I was still at 171211-6 and when I did a manual request it did bump up to 171212-0.  Now on Dec 14 with a manual request it is still at 171212-0 and telling me it is up to date.  Maybe I am too impatient. Anyone else seeing this too or is it just me.
I seem to be getting the streaming updates so I guess all is well.
Wonder why this has started to happen.  It was just last week that this happened before.
Thoughts?

VPS updates as far as protection goes, are simply consolidations of the streaming updates.
What's the big deal about how quickly you receive them ???
As long as you're on-line, you are constantly being updated via streaming updates.

True as far as it goes, but I'm not sure that you have thought this right through. Yes, there are the streaming updates. But the VPS updates also carry other material. And, if local clients are not updating, there is the question of why not? Is it a local problem that needs to be addressed? Or a problem with Avast of which they need to be made aware?
Whatever was happening over the last few days, I'm now updating.
