Microsoft Outlook not working with VPN

I'm running the latest version of Avast! freeware and just installed the Avast! VPN on a 60-day trial. The first thing I noticed after restarting my computer is that Outlook 2010 cannot connect to the appropriate servers, so I cannot download new email. Does anyone know why this is or if there's a fix? If not, the VPN is totally worthless to me.

I should also note that I'm running the Outlook connector and that I'm unable to see my port settings.
