Avast AV Pro obsolete?
« on: December 12, 2017, 10:28:12 PM »
I must ask the obvious question.
AV Pro is no longer listed for sale.
What happens when my subscription for AV Pro runs out.
Does it just stop working.
Will I get advanced notification?

I cannot find/see any policy statement anywhere.

Thank you

Thank you.
I have compared AV Pro with Internet Security and due to my 'set-up' there is only the ransomware module.
I have my own domain and most, if not all, of the email filtering is there.
I have a decent router that obviously is a natural firewall, add in SPI and IPv6 and Windows FW and I'm good to go.
Internet Security is getting on for 65% (£30 to £50) more and for the ransomware module, it's a non starter.

I have a few months left so I have plenty of time with, I think, a good product.

I believe Avast Pros biggest competitor is avast free - I have a stand alone firewall on my XP and win7 systems and use the windows firewall on this win10 laptop.

For my needs and browsing/security habits this combination is enough for me. That said a robust backup and security strategy (drive imaging software) is the final line of defence.

@DavidR
You could well be right.
However, I do not like adds and always buy.
Having Vista as my OS it now looks as if I will have to go to Panda or Webroot.

I'm no fan of ads, but I have a high tolerance and fast hands to close them.

I do buy software, generally that will be lifetime use as opposed to annual subscription

I have 9 days remaining on my Avast Pro subscription and when I hit renew it gives the option to purchase a new Pro subscription.

How odd!
If I go to Asyn link, then 'Home' > compare products AV Pro is not listed.
Looking around it seems that there are still licenses going.
My current license has 160 days to run and I am wary of buying another now because I do not know what Avasts support will be?

I've just had a reply from the Avast team and they've confirmed to me Avast Pro AV can be renewed.

It is just not promoted as before and end of life not officially announced yet.

@Alikhan
Thank you.

So reading the 'sales page' posted by Asyn the support life must be longer than 3 years from today at least.
If this is the case then perhaps I could buy another 1 year license now and use it after my current license expires?

The only issue with that is the license starts from the day of purchase.

Ouch!
I'll just have to wait and see then.

Renewal closer to the due date is certainly the better option, hopefully you will still be able to renew at that point.
