Bug in Avast install?
« on: December 22, 2017, 01:49:09 PM »
I am getting a different Customise screen in Avast install process (Windows), than the one shown in Avast support page.
The screen I get has no option to go ahead with the installation as there is no INSTALL button (there is no BACK button either).
Attached are screenshots of 1) the customise screen as it should be according to Avast support, 2) the customise screen I get without the buttons.
Any ideas would be most appreciated. I'm lost on this, and near to giving up entirely on Avast.
Thanks.

That doesn't look right for sure. Although, you haven't been able to install Avast, could you try the procedure below and post back

I'd recommend running a clean install:

1.Download your version of avast and the avastclear tool - save them to the desktop:

Avast Free Antivirus
Avast Pro Antivirus
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier

Download Avast Clear Tool

2. Uninstall Avast from Control Panel (if possible) and reboot.
3. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear. [Running Avastclear is normal mode will give a prompt to go into Safe Mode]
4. Install the version you downloaded.
5. Reboot.

Paid: If you have a paid license, insert the license key/activation code after the reboot at stage 5.

Thanks for the reply Alikhan.

This is a first time install, I don't have Avast or any other AV installed, so I guess it's a clean install I'm doing.
Installation file I'm using is direct from Avast download site (Avast free).
I'll try your installation file.

Attempted to run avastclear.exe in safe mode as suggested, could not proceed as there was no way to continue from the 'Welcome to Avast Uninstall Tool'  screen of avastclear. Is this another case of a missing button? The only possibility was to hit the ESC key and give up.

Thanks Bob3160.

Screen resolution is 1680x1050.

I did wonder about this, but I've never had issues with any other software. Suspicious that the buttons have disappeared in both the Install and Avastclear screens.

Since my last post I tried another approach. I got to the last input box on the screen, then tabbed to where the missing INSTALL button should be by my calculation, and hit ENTER. The installation started, but then aborted with errors (Setup log attached).
I'm not sure this approach is worth trying unless I get to the bottom of why the buttons are missing, as I may end up with software installed that I can't use for the same reason.

Thanks, Draxon.

PS  This was an Offline install I ran - avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe downloaded from Avast. I have tried with the online install too, but prefer not to be online without any AV installed.

Disappearing buttons issue solved:

I did some research and found that sometimes high DPI settings can cause this sort of issue with some software (though this is a first for me). Thanks Bob3160 for pointing me in that direction.
Altered DPI setting from 175% down to 125% and the buttons reappeared. Only issue is that with this setting everything is too small to read on my high-res laptop screen - so it's not a solution if Avast has the same problem when running as it does with the install program.

When I continue the install, it still fails as before with Fatal error:
[instcore] [ 3872: 3880] The installation failed with error 41227 (0x0000A10B) [Downloader system error]. Performing uninstall...
