GUI changes
« on: December 17, 2017, 04:09:16 AM »
This morning, after I restarted my PC, I realized that avast GUI changed.
The version remains at 17.8.2318, however the GUI looks like avast beta 17.9.2320.
What's going on?

avast has too much control over our computers is the problem.  They updated without permission.  They feel like they can do that... been going on for years.  Just like windows tells you that you need to update and cant stop it (unless you pay for their most expensive version)... and oh by the way we're going to restart your computer without you overseeing it so hopefully you saved everything, if not kiss it goodbye.  Oh and if we mess the update up we're just going to have you keep rebooting into an endless loop.

Its the "we know better than you" syndrome that's happening.  Meanwhile like every we know better than you campaign they goof it up so along with avast's little gui update they removed quick scans... but of course just the interface to reach quick scans, not the actual scheduled quick scan that's running forever that you can no longer access without reinstalling... idiots

Before you complain, learn a bit more about the settings.
If your AV doesn't have access to every part of your system, it also can't protect your system.
If you don't like the AV you have, fire it. Your computer, your choice.

Certainly, they know better than you. You can set the updates to manual in the settings.

Certainly, they know better than you. You can set the updates to manual in the settings.

Not necessarily, setting program updates to manual may not stop certain updates. The VPS updates can also deliver micro updates and engine updates.  Setting VPS and Engine updates to manual would break the streaming updates as they require VPS updates set to Automatic.

There is also the Emergency Update function, which may be able to deliver minor updates, but to my way of thinking this shouldn't be done as it is hardly an emergency (but it may be possible).
