Sometimes when I turn on my PC, tray icon is missing, but I can open GUI with desktop shortcut.
Icon is back after reboot.
Avast system tray icon is totally broken in this version.

Regrettably my previously reported issue on Firefox failing to start without first switching off all shields is still there.

My initial report read as follows:
After installation of this new release, Firefox (52.5.0ers) does not start up any more although remarkably it does appear in the Task Manager's process list (WinXP SP3). Suspending Avast for 10 minutes Firefox does start up successfully, but only after killing firefox.exe from the process list first. Have reinstalled both Avast and Firefox, but without any success.

Bug fixing,  this version seems to create more problems than ever.
I would suggest that Avast make the previous version available to those that want it, otherwise, I suspect most of us will be disabling the program update options and waiting a few weeks for any new version to be tested properly.

I cant believe that this latest version has been tested sufficiently, prior to launch, its caused too many issues, especially with Outlook FFS.  and then to have no update from Avast?

Alternatives to Avast include Avira, Bitdefender, AVG, to name but 3, all free.   Avast needs to get their act together. I use the free version at home, but I also run 2 networks with many servers and workstations,  and based on this experience, I may start looking elsewhere at renewal time!

Since upgrading my desktop pc to this latest version 17.9.2322 of Avast Free Antivirus, I have not been able to open Internet Explorer 11 except by 'Run as Administrator' mode only.

My pc worked perfectly under the old version 17.8.2318.

So to prove to me that the upgrade was the culprit, and that it was not just a problem with my desktop pc.
My Asus Laptop had also requested that I upgrade to the latest version. I did this, after proving that IE11 opened normally first under v17.8.2318 and I now have exactly the same problem on this device.

Both device run Microsoft Windows 10 Home (v1709) and when attempting to open IE11, it tries to open (whirling symbol) then fails to load. But, opens perfectly in administrator mode.
So to me, there can be no doubt that this upgrade caused this issue, and there is no way to downgrade  :(

Several people have reported that the new version prevents a particular program from running.  I had a problem which is somewhat similar with the now-old version (17.8.2318), which I was able to resolve by doing the following:

- Disable shields (Right-click on orange blob -> Avast shields control -> Disable for 10 minutes)
- Run the program which normally will not start, then close it
- If it ran correctly, re-enable the shields (Right-click -> Avast shields control -> Enable all shields)
- Run the program again (it might work now)

I do not know for sure why this worked for me.  It seems that once the program is able to run correctly once, Avast does less scanning of it subsequently.

I am planning to wait a while before updating to 17.9.2322. ;D

The new version of avast when i try to open outlook 2016 from office 365 crash the outlook.
Fortuanally the next time i start the outlook 2016 the program disable the avast plugin, otherwise it would costed me several hours to find why the outlook 2016 suddenly start to crash.

Second AvastUI.exe silenty popup to front, which causes minimalize all fullscreen programs and all active windows is no loger active = cant write to browser etc. until I click on it again. It happens after some time and only once from PC start. Can anyone else confirm this? Thank you.

Confirmed:

you might see more processes AvastUI.exe now, but that's OK

Well, this is not OK!:

Why is this thing suddenly popping up in the middle of my screen, without me having clicked on anything?

TEST sytem: windows 10 1709(Updated Sept 2017) x64 pro with kb4054517 update, remove ie and Edge,Defender.stop Windows Firewall.
Frist installed comodo firewall 10.0.2.6420 (hips was off), then installed avast free antivirus 17.9.2321(only use four basic protection functions). restart PC.Completed the start, imported comodo configuration, now hips was on Crazy mode, hips rules: avastsvc.exe  avastui.exe avemupdate.exe aswidsgenta.exe taskhostw.exe TiWorker.exe seted to windows System application. The next morning, power on the computer,"Your license is not valid" did  happen on avast free antivirus.
The configuration file used is in the attachment.

The other system:windows 10 1709(Updated Sept 2017) x86 pro with kb4054517 update, remove ie and Edge, defender.Stop Windows Firewall.Same installed comodo firewall and avast free antivirus 17.9.2321,but comodo hips seted to off.No license expired on avast free antivirus.

After many tests, maybe there is an incompatibility between avast license and hips crazy mode.
Please help check under the hips configuration what causes the license expired(Modify the file name to cfgx.7z).
Thank you very much! ! !
This morning, when the computer was powered on, both test computers showed that the AVAST(free ver17.9.2322)  license expired without internet connection. Now, I am confused.
Next time I had to test avast separately。

Absolutly right I confirm. No anti-spam anymore  visible and trying to éadd-in" crashes OUTLOOK 2013". Great job Avast ! Fantastic shit.
Also, by making installation modification suppress for example Anti-Spam and reinstall it, great it complains that defender is  running. Bull shit software is coming up. I have paid now for 3 computers until 2019. Was not a good deal !

Well this new release has just screwed up all 3 of my computers.
I am hoping AVAST will release another version within 24 hours to sort.
In the mean time I've cancelled all my auto renewal subscriptions and will be moving to another supplier if not resolved fast...
Utterly unacceptable...

Glad to have found this thread. After updating to this current version I'm having problems with opening attachments in Outlook 2010. Whenever I click on the attachment to open it, Outlook will crash. OS is Win XP SP3.

First time encountering a serious bug after using Avast for the last 2-3 years.

Wish I could roll back to the previous version. Hope Avast releases a new update soon.

Thanks for this bad update. First, not all services ran, Avast reinstalled, then ran the services. Outlook 365 does not start anymore, it depends on the AVAST plugin. A new installation brought no improvement.  Why do you bring such a bad update among the users. I am annoyed for having paid for this software money. :'(
