Thanks for this bad update. First, not all services ran, Avast reinstalled, then ran the services. Outlook 365 does not start anymore, it depends on the AVAST plugin. A new installation brought no improvement.  Why do you bring such a bad update among the users. I am annoyed for having paid for this software money. :'(

Fixed a problem with white UI (you might see more processes AvastUI.exe now, but that's OK)

No it's not OK.  One process uses 83.5mb of memory and just sits there doing nothing.    It only kicks in 10mins after reboot.   I have tried a repair several times but to no avail.

Can you undo this "FIX".

What's kicking in is the root kit scan.

The UI is doing the scan? What?

Many thanks for such a prompt reply, but what is a root scan and can I shut it down.   I tried to kill the process but I get a message "access denied".   It also seems to freeze programmes running in full screen mode.

Hi Bob,
Yep I tried that, it had no effect.
I also disabled anti rootkit monitor, this too had no effect.
Both times I rebooted.
Memory usage has now climbed from 83.5mb to 83.7, so it appears to be getting steadily worse.

Certainly not my experience.

Are you sure you don't have something else running in the background that's forcing Avast to scan
that activity ???

The anti-rootkit scan is likely to have no effect on the avastUI.exe as that is covered by the main avastSvc.exe function.

That said 83MB in the greater scheme of things is really not much on systems with GBs of RAM.

The highest memory hog is my browser, followed by my email program, then by one of my avastUI.exe instances (even more than yours), am I concerned about that not really. RAM is there to be used (and is managed by windows), on this winXP Pro desktop I only have 4GB of RAM, on my win10 Laptop I have 8GB of RAM so even less of a concern on that.

EDIT: typo.

Explain to me why the UI needs that much memory? Not the service. The UI... I have two copies of AvastUI.exe running that use over 100MB combined. Why? To what end?

Thanks David and Bob for trying to help, but I have absolutely nothing new running except Windows, ( and I have all Windows updates disabled) no Browsers no Emails no programmes.    Once again, this new AvastUI.exe has only happened since the new release.    If I reset Avast to factory settings, it disappears for several minutes and then pops back up again.
In the meantime I have had 3 crash to desktops with FSX (Flight Simulator) with out of memory errors, which has never happened before.    I might add C:\FSX is listed in my Avast exclusions.
Is it possible to uninstall this new version and reinstall the previous version of Avast.?, or alternatively how to kill the process.
With kindest regards.

Just updated here via the GUI. It looks like it's working normally, except one thing.
It's just here that the Avast icon in the task bar doesn't move anymore when it's scanning something? It's still checked in settings to animate, but it looks like it doesn't work anymore.

They broke it with very first beta release. We've reported it the same day. They never bothered to fix it despite complaining about it every single bloody beta version during the test cycle. I just can't even...

Nevermind the animation because the entire avast icon disappeared from my system tray with this release.  I never had it animated, so I can't comment on that.  But now I can't click the tray and start a manual update.  Instead, I have to open the application, go to settings and then to update.  This is on my Win XP machine.  Haven't tried on my Win 7 yet.

I noticed that it uses alot of CPU for no reason.
Also therea re 2 Avast Antivirus 32bit running on task manager.
Even when I disable Avast, one of them seems to be still running.

Any fixes for these ?

<snip>

How do you determine it is for no reason ?
If other elements on your system are active then avast (as an on-access AV scanner) is going to be scanning.

You aren't disabling avast as such, but disabling the Shields, AvastSvc.exe and AvastUI.exe would still be enabled so you can get shield control back.
