I just updated Avast from v17.8.2318 --> v17.9.2322.
On Windows XP SP3, the new installation created a serious problem in copying JPG files.

Seeing your message, I do not know if it is linked but yesterday I could not attach a JPG file in a forum.
"Error on the attachment"
I will investigate this track with other OS
nb:it was also with Win XP SP3

It's not just JPG. I have had problems with JPG, HTM and EXE. Please check this thread:

why do I constantly get out a message about how to install the password avast add-on, it's fucking unnecessary to me, and not for that I bought a premier so that banners constantly jumped from it

Second AvastUI.exe silenty popup to front, which causes minimalize all fullscreen programs and all active windows is no loger active = cant write to browser etc. until I click on it again. It happens after some time and only once from PC start. Can anyone else confirm this? Thank you.

Same here when I play games on Steam for example. But it doesn't happen only once from PC start, it happens a few times on my PC, depending on how long my PC is still on. But it is clearly the same problem. I hope that the AVAST team will fix it very soon :) The game mode is on, I added the games and I even added Steam.exe too, but the games get minimalized and I go to the Windows desktop ... I noticed it since last monday (december 25th) approximately. Last friday it didn't happen so I thought it automatically got fixed, but yesterday saturday it happened again :(
Thank you very much :)

I noticed that it uses alot of CPU for no reason.
Also therea re 2 Avast Antivirus 32bit running on task manager.
Even when I disable Avast, one of them seems to be still running.
<snip>

How do you determine it is for no reason ?
If other elements on your system are active then avast (as an on-access AV scanner) is going to be scanning.
You aren't disabling avast as such, but disabling the Shields, AvastSvc.exe and AvastUI.exe would still be enabled so you can get shield control back.

Why would a program use CPU without me telling to do anything ?

Checking for updates, maintenance, etc. There are many reasons activities happen without a users input.
All activity is monitored by your AV. That's what you hired it to do.

Yeah I kinda get what it does. It just feels like there is more activity since the recent updates. And those 3 seperate Avast Antivirus tasks in the task manager didn't exist before. There used to be only 1.
I'm just trying to figure out why.

- Fixed a problem with white UI (you might see more processes AvastUI.exe now, but that's OK)

Congratulations, you just released a new version with ENTIRELY broken tray icon animation which doesn't animate anymore at all. Not that we warned about the bug pretty much on day one of the very first beta or anything...

I thought it was just me, but i also notice that avast does not animate in tray icon anymore, before the program update whenever my laptop boots up in desktop my avast tray icon always move, but now it does even budge  :D

A known bug for some time already. Would be nice if they finally fixed this.

I just updated Avast from v17.8.2318 --> v17.9.2322.
On Windows XP SP3, the new installation created a serious problem in copying JPG files. When copying a *.JPG file, it appeared to be copied, but the file could not be opened (Error: Can't read file header! Unknown file format!). The most serious problem is that neither the original file or the copied file can then be deleted because explorer.exe is still processing the copy. This then causes an additional problem when trying to shut down because WinXP has problems terminating explorer.exe. After rebooting, the original and copied files are both readable, but neither can be copied. This does not occur on all JPG files, but only about 10% of them. I don't know if other file types are effected.

This problem occurred on both my WinXP SP3 PCs. I UNINSTALLED Avast 17.9.2322 and the problem completely disappeared!!
Is this fixable? Are there settings in Avast that could be adjusted to prevent this problem? Or am I stuck with v17.8.2318?

The problem does not seem to be present on Win7x64.
Seeing your message, I do not know if it is linked but yesterday I could not attach a JPG file in a forum.

In addition to my post that the system tray icon is missing on my WinXPSP3 machine (not just not animated), I also concur with this problem.  Yes, it appears this version is interfering with windows copy, as I get the message "Copying. . . .  Windows currently working with file Wait to finish or close it".  Two different instances of this: 1) right after completed copy and I try to rename or delete either file and 2) When attaching a file to an Outlook message, the attach hangs.  As Altracker8 said, you cannot Shut Down computer (will get the Copying. . ." message), so you have to simply power off.  Reverted back to old Free version and problem disappears.

For awhile now, I dread whenever I see there's a program update available.  I say to myself, Precious, do you really want to go through with this?  Do you have an old version saved, along with the Clear program?

I now have two versions of AvastUI.exe running at all times and a third one if I open the application, it used to only be one all the time and two if I opened the application is something causing this second one?

Edit: So I see you mentioned it as a thing now and say it's okay, but why is it okay?  Why does it need to be split off into two processes?

Because there is a bug in Chromium that caused the UI to crash on slower CPUs. So it's safer to have specific process for each window. But after PC start you should have just one AvastUI.exe running.
