Sorry but with the new version breaking outlook,  I've uninstalled Avast and started using Bitdefender.  IF  avast fix the bug then maybe I'll come back.  And to be clear, I run 2 networks with over 50 other users, so its not just me walking away.
Avast, please fix this quickly, to retain customers.

Bugs in your email protection are kind of a big deal to not be responding to!

Sorry for the trouble, it's fixed now.

Because there is a bug in Chromium that caused the UI to crash on slower CPUs. So it's safer to have specific process for each window. But after PC start you should have just one AvastUI.exe running.
I see two AvastUI.exe constantly running. Second process is not gone after PC start.
Why do you even use Chromium ? It is a known memory hog.
This version is so bad that for the first time in the past 3 or 4 years, I was checking your competition.

Avast Free AV 17.9.2322 has moved a file to the Virus Chest. I need to restore it but the drop-down arrow that should give me the option to restore is not working. It 'quivers' when the mouse hovers over it (the arrow) but nothing happens.

BTW, first attempt at asking a question - hope I got it right / sorry if not...! :P

How are you trying to access the Virus Chest (via the Avast User Interface or directly from the avast tray icon) ?

I'm able to access the Virus Chest (by either method above), select one of my test files, and the drop down options are displayed.

Same problem.
After about 15 minutes from the start of the PC appears the second process that consumes about 83.250kb of ram (Windows 7 64bit). And it stays as long as I do not turn off the pc

Me three. Two processes. 17MB and 83MB. Making 100MB or so. For a UI... smh.

Sometimes the 83MB process goes away, but often it just sits there.

How strange - tried it again today and the options pop-up now appears! Managed to restore the needed file. Thanks for your reply.

By the by, I don't have a tray icon for Avast, but I think I can do all I need to from the main Avast UI.  If some things might be easier to get to from a tray icon, how can I get one? Settings > General > Show Avast tray icon is checked, but icon not present. Thanks.

You're welcome.

The avast tray icon should be enabled as part of the installation.  Do you have any other security based programs that might block new start-up entries ?

You could try an Avast Repair > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Avast Antivirus > Change - from the next window select Repair.

True! But I did not download any updates. Has something changed with virus definition updates or straming update?

Micro updates can be delivered outside of a full program update.  The Virus Definitions update can have engine updates.
