100% disk access (Steam?)
« on: December 26, 2017, 08:32:53 PM »
Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution? Avast Free, Win 7.

avastsvc is constantly scanning one of my hard drives, all day, every day, as long as my computer is on. Turning off the core shields doesn't stop it. It also only happens to one of my drives, the one I use exclusively for Steam. The scanning happens whether or not Steam is running.

According to resource monitor avastsvc is systematically reading every directory on the drive in alphabetical order, and when it gets to Z it loops back round and starts scanning from A again.

There seems to be no way of stopping it and the main Avast interface doesn't say it's doing anything at all.

Antivirus programs monitor all activity that goes on in your computer when on

So can it be other activity you see avast is monitoring?

If it is any other activity, it's being hidden from me. Resource monitor isn't showing anything else accessing anything on the drive.

There doesn't seem to be a way to fix this or to get help from Avast so I'm just going to have to uninstall the whole thing.
