Avast writing junk registry entries
« on: December 31, 2017, 01:57:50 AM »
Hello,

Avast seems to be writing junk entries in the registry. See pic that shows HKCU entries.

Similar entries are there in HK_users

How do you know it is Avast doing this?

I have avast! installed and there are no such entries there. Not sure why would it write there anyway, it has its own entries elsewhere...

Other sites mention the same thing.
Plus registry entries match other Avast entries.
This and other machines recently uninstalled Browser cleanup Tool and show similar behavior.

Perhaps installing and then uninstalling Browser cleanup component would show this.

I see this on a Win-10 64-bit Pro edition.

I also have Win-10 64 bit on 3 systems. None of them have these entries.
Maybe you need to dig a bit deeper ???

After some further research, I've found the following entries

That still doesn't mean that this has anything to do with Avast.
I've posted this in the developers forum to get further information and hopefully an explanation.

One step at a time and hopefully I'll convince you. But one step at a time ;)

I'm not using avast! Browser Cleanup on any of my systems which may explain why I don't have any of these entries on any system...

I wasn't using either but this component got activated after a recent update and I then uninstalled it. So far, these entries point to Avast but hopefully we'll have an answer soon on this.

Yes, I have 3 entries each in HKCU and HKU.

Indeed, bob3160 seems to have more (around 10 or so). But that could perhaps be due to the fact that he might be using more Avast components than we do. bob3160?
