Windows 7 update KB4056894 Fails
« on: January 09, 2018, 12:30:51 AM »
Windows 7 update KB4056894 Fails and the error message from Microsoft is that the antivirus is not modifying a registry key, causing the update to fail.

Microsoft message is:
"Due to an issue with some versions of Anti-Virus software, this fix is only being made applicable to the machines where the Anti virus ISV have updated the ALLOW REGKEY".

And:
Contact your Anti-Virus AV to confirm that their software is compatible and have set the following REGKEY on the machine
Key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"Subkey="SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat"
Value Name="cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc"
Type="REG_DWORD”
Data="0x00000000”

Tried the update three times and each time the computer is not able to get into Windows. Only was to get in was system restore.

Anyone else have this issue and if so, was it corrected?

Thanks for your help.

Do you have the registry entry in the location specified?
Open regedit by pressing the windows key and R and Go to the HKEY LOCAL MACHINE and follow the path should in the subkey.

If you have it then you are able to install it, if you don’t then you have to update Avast. Avast sets this key in an update.
You can go to the Microsoft Catalogue and download and install it manually and see if it lets you do it that way but make sure both the latest update from Avast and that registry.

Thanks for your help. I checked the registry after each update attempt  earlier today.

The only difference in the registry file is the data line. Instead of Data=0x00000000, the registry indicates 0x00000000 (0). There is one more "0" in brackets. Everything else is the same.

Also, Avast is up to date. Both the program and the virus updates.

I'm in the process of downloading the update from the Microsoft Catalogue website. I'll give it a try and let you know.

Thanks again.

No luck after fourth try. Tried both the Windows version and the MS catalogue version. There is a difference in size between the two.

However, I checked the Microsoft catalogue website and it indicates that this update is not compatable with AMD processors....which is what this computer has. Microsoft is working with AMD to resolve this problem.

Here's the link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4073707/windows-operating-system-security-update-block-for-some-amd-based-devi

Hope it doesn't take them too long to fix it.

@meangene1000
Hi!

This is a warning for you!

You should do NO MS Update (refuse it until you know, your machine is safe!).

My AMD machine collapsed twice, but I was able to get it to work again and I worked day and night for the fixes!!!

Please, stay calm and wait.

Yeah in that case, ignore my suggestion.
I was not aware you have an AMD based machine.
