Can I terminate the provider...?
« on: May 24, 2006, 02:15:38 AM »
Hi.  I use Thunderbird for my email.  In the avast settings it mentions the "Outlook/Exchange" provider "waiting for subsystem to start."  I assume it's b/c I don't have/use either.  Should I then just terminate it's proccess?  Would that be beneficial to system resources, or doesn't it matter?

As reported a lot of times, the message "The provider is waiting on the subsystem to start" will be shown there until you open MS Outlook.
The plugin will be enabled automatically after that. Check if the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:

Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager

If you do not use Outlook (full, not the Express), you can disable the provider or you can uninstall it.
If I were you, although, I'll let it there. It uses NO resources if it is not being used  ;)
