Avast looses registration?
« on: May 29, 2006, 10:16:02 AM »
Hello,

when I powered up my pc today morning avast gave a warning about the expiring of my registration key which I received on Feb. 05 this year. I had a look into the "About Avast" dialog which tells of my key expiring on june 18 this year. I reentered my key received by mail and I noticed that the key in my mail and the former key in that dialog were different. After reentering the key the about dialog tells about a never expiring key of type home to be reregistered in may 2007. Bug or anything I have to worry about?

greetings

Check your system date, especially the month and year, adjust if required.

The avast for Home program doesn't expire, the virus signature pattern updates do and you need to re-register for these updates even with the home version. This helps avast with the number of active users so they can ensure server support for updates, etc.

The registration for avast home VPS updates is 14 months so that would seem to be correct Feb 2006 to May 2007. So it may just be a computer hiccup.
