URL Block files
« on: May 28, 2006, 03:34:03 PM »
Hello! I've add to the URL Block list some URLs. But I'd like to have a backup of the list. Is there a way to do it? Where does Avast! store the URLs that have to be blocked? I'd really would not like to visit those URLs again to do it manually.

on another note...do you know a way to "censor" some words in google? If I don't want google to display the results for a particular word is it a way to do it?
Thanks!

I don't think there is a way to backup urls blocked in avast, it would probably be more efficient/better using your firewall or browser to block specific urls as some may offer a way of saving those settings.

Google has Preferences which can be applied, this requires that you accept a cookie to store your preferences.

For an individual search you can use -unwanted the minus sign before the 'unwanted' word means don't return searches with this word.

thanks for your replay. my problem is that while researching a word in google I made a mistake and the results were some very disgusting pictures. What i wanted was to delete that word from showing up in google again. But it seems that there is not that option.  :'( The URLs I blocked are the search results for that word. if I block google I'll not be able to search again with it. That's why i wanted to know if there is a back-up of the URLs I wrote. but thanks again for the answer.

You can use the firewall to block.
You can use K9 (http://www.firewalls.com.au/section.asp?section=14&item=18&detailno=12) or Naomi (www.radiance.m6.net) to block them too.

thanks for the suggestion. As long as Avast! will block them I'll be ok. I was just a bit traumatized, that's all. the WebShield is a life saver.

You aren't blocking google, just using googles preferences to block "very disgusting pictures," see image of one section of the Preferences I mentioned previously.

oh! Thanks! I'll try that. I didn't knew it was possible to filter things like that.
