Web Shield doesn't work with all browsers but you could either manually set it up to use the web shield browser in browsers connection settings.

Or edit the avast4.ini file [WebScanner] section and add the optinprocess line below if it doesn't exist, if it does use the comma and add the additional process, e.g. OptinProcess=executableFileName.exe,executableFileName2.exe
Quote
[WebScanner]
OptinProcess=executableFileName.exe (this is the name of the slimbrowser executable)

Are you certain webshield isn't working with Slimbrowser?   I've used SB for years and as far as I know webshield works fine with it.  The 'a' ball spins, and from time to time I've had warning boxes come up that a baddie is trying to get through.
I'm not aware of any way to truly test if webshield is functioning, so maybe I've not been protected all this time(??)
Does anyone know of any such test?

edit - I just tried adding the optinprocess suggested by DavidR to see what would happen and slimbrowser crashed twice in quick succession.  So I removed it again.

That is why avast has approved/supported browsers as there are so many out there which may or may not conform to standards and cause issues. The optinprocess shoulld fource web shield to recognise the browser but there may obviously be issues, hense why the browser may not be on the supported browsers list contained in the VPS. I only wish that list were availible for users to check.

No you don't have to run a scan.
Firstly because they were intercepted by web shield and you aborted the connection killing the download so they aren't on your system.
Secondly because they are harmless tests for the jpeg exploit and the eicar test. These test files are simply designed to test your AV is working as expected and they should alert on these test files but they can't infect anything.

I really don't understand what it is your asking ?
If it is what security software should you be running, then if you connect to the internet then the same as you would for a desktop system (especially if this is your main system), security isn't a compromise. Unless of course you consider freeware options to any paid for security software you might have to keep costs down.

I'm really glad you posted this question, drhayden1.

Slimbrowser doesn't work with Webshield after all... clicking on DavidR's links does nothing in SB for the JPEG test at Nod32, although I do get a warning about the Eicar test but it's the Standard Shield that picks it up, not the Webshield.

Using Opera, my other browser of choice, both are detected right away by the Webshield; the warning is different too... to abort connection, whereas the standard shield warning is to delete/move to chest etc..

Good to know, and I guess I'll be looking at either Maxthon or Avant for my IE-based browser in the future.  (Maybe I'll check out Greenbrowser too, just for bob3160)   :)

You don't have to check it out for me. I've been using it for well over a year. ;D

Which is why I would love to see avast include the ability for users to see what browsers are approved for use with web shield and not just buried in the VPS file.
