The driver that causes the BSODs, aswStmXP.sys, is at version 18.1.3792.0, with a Modified date of Monday, February 12, 2018, 10:23:44 PM and with a digital signature signing time of Wednesday, January 31, 2018 1:46:51 PM.

Asyn, our messages crossed.  I'd rather not try a beta - my XP machine is too important.  Martin K - please advise.  Thanks.

I just had a look on my WinXP SP3 rig.
aswStmXP.sys is version 18.8.4057.0
created date 23/12/17
digital signature date 02/11/18.
That is with latest Avast Free 18.8.2356 running. I have no BSOD's here.
Dont know if that info is useful to you or not.
