Snake - my Avast Free is the same version as yours.

Above in this thread, I gave the version info for the particular avast driver .sys file that apparently triggered the BSODs.

Thanks.

I knew it, but wasn't quite sure, that you updated to the 'last build 3761.278', for you had '3754.0'!
That means to me: your machine isn't up to date yet.

Snake - interesting.

On your XP machine, please search for your driver aswStmXP.sys, check its Properties, and let us know what version you see.

Thanks.

My latest μUpdate is 335 and the version of the driver file "aswStmXP.sys" is 17.9.3754.0 (Avast Stream Filter). Have no problems with Windows XP sp3 x86 (updates as of December 2017) with a BSOD.

Hey, you should recognize, that your XP machine needs a so called 'micro update' (from Avast, that should bring it to that build version '3761.278') I have!!!
I would only follow your thought (searching for 'aswStmXP.sys'), after you have updated to the last version of the build!

Snake - To repeat, my Avast AV Free is the same micro-update as yours - it ends with 3761.278.  I already have that micro-update.

Cosmics, my old friend - only you have the time-travel super-power to get a micro-update newer than 278.  The rest of us will have to wait for the present to reach the future.

And of course you don't have BSODs - you are Cosmics!

Avast engineers - I suggest you hire Cosmics on special contract - he can fix ANYTHING.

3. Avast engineers - YOU have to fix EVERYTHING.

To 1: Right now, you declared it! Now we are on the same level. Ok.
To 2: Yes and we're close together!
To 3: Nobody would hire Cosmics, for he'll loose his freedom! And I wan't agree!!!

1. But I'm sure my friend that is installed with me μUpdate 335!

2. So far I have no BSOD, by the way I'm still testing whether I manage to get this error synonymous.

3. The programmers at Avast familiar with security better with their code, hope that the problem is solved with you shortly.

Small note, the BSOD  at you could also have another cause.

@Snake

Glnz knows me from the MSFN forum, I know how he means it.

Cosmics - you are truly cosmic - even inter-galactic.

Yes, my registry shows the same:

185=1513879623
257=1513879623
277=1513879623
317=1513879624
318=1513879624
322=1514563233
324=1515002763
327=1515348360
328=1515604589
329=1515604591
332=1516125962
333=1516240637
335=1516730778

Impressive!

Maybe Avast will explain why we see 335 in the Registry but only 278 in "About Avast".

And maybe Avast will also explain what they see in the BSOD zip I sent them - maybe there's a reason for the the BSODs.

Danke!

Happened again.  BSOD caused by aswStmXP.sys.  See attached pic below.

And just now, I copied the mini*.dmp file to Avast's ftp server:  ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming/Mini022018-01.dmp

Avast - please fix this.

Maybe your update brought the problem back?
