Web Shield - high CPU and disk usage despite applying solution
« on: January 30, 2018, 01:38:38 PM »
Hello Avast team,

I would like to report the problem with web shield in all avast versions, currently using avast free 17.9
Web shield has been using a lot of CPU with high disk activity while surfing the web and especially downloading large files

I applied the solution in this topic
https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/203/

However, the result is identical. Just a little better but not good enough
I can say avast has one of the least optimized Web shield module on the market
https://www.passmark.com/reports/Consumer_Security_Products_Performance_Benchmarks_2018_Ed_1.pdf

I have been testing various AVs for years and I can see that avast's web shield needs to be improved to use less resources. I observe from many of my machines with similar results

This is the same fix I used for the problems with my browser. There was absolutely no difference to tell of. I even deleted and reinstalled IE11 and that did not help either. Maybe I should have stayed with AVG.
