IE proxy settings for webshield
« on: June 04, 2006, 06:45:28 PM »
What is the difference between the webshield operation using the settings as

1) layed out in the text instuctions
http://avast.com/eng/webshield_issues.html

and

2) the tutorial

I've tried both, which is correct, or does it matter? Also, if using method 1) what about the "by pass proxy for local addresses" check box?

I think the operation is the same, i.e., follow the same mechanism...
One uses the local communication (proxy) and the other the traffic coming directly from Internet.
If you're not using a local proxy application (annonimizer tool for instance) you don't have to change the default values (in Windows XP).
In Windows 98 or Me you always need to use the proxy way (as the scanning is not transparent with these operational systems).
The best things in life are free.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried both and didn't see any difference.
