Browsing problems
« on: June 08, 2006, 04:26:32 AM »
I think I miss something in setting up (about X-...).

1.Now I cannot click on the link from a web page to go to another site.
2. Also cannot access to live technical charting.
3. I cannot delete mails from my yahoo e-mail account and cannot access to hotmail login page.
4. Cannot access to https page like internet banking.

How do I solve these together?

 :)  Hi Ben :

We need more info in order to help, such as Avast version
( Home, Pro ), and the names of other security programs
with possibly their version number(s), and your Operating
      System, etc .

Thank you for attending to me.
My operating system is Windows 2000 Professional, initially I downloaded aVast 4.7 Professional and I think I click negative to ActiveX when the screen prompted the message :" An ActiveX control on this page might be unsafe to interact with other parts of the page. Do you want to allow this interaction? " Now even when I see the same prompt message for certain sites and click whichever positive or negative, I cannot change. (Is ActiveX relate to Adobe?)

Or it has to do with previous Norton Internet Security 2005 Antispyware edition. At first, they can co-exist and my computer can get what I wanted as before. But when I uninstalled the Norton via 'Start' button at the bottom of the screen, then 'Set Programs and Defaults', 'Add/Remove Programs' and I did not reboot the computer on its own, but I went to somewhere else to check something before I rebooted manually. Now the 'Set Programs and Defaults' page doesn't work also.

There are Ad-Aware SE Personal Build 1.05, Spy-Guard and Spybot still in my computer, my sister says these can co-exists with aVast antivirus.

This morning I uninstalled aVast 4.7 Professional by using aswClear.exe and installed Home version but the same problems still happen.

When I click the link on a web page, it doesn't bring in the new windows or the page is blank, and the #sign appears at the end of the address.

And even I want to use smiley, change font size, underline, bold for this message also cannot.

 :)  Hi Ben :

Norton Internet Security..... must be COMPLETELY
removed ( uninstall, etc ) before Avast is installed. In
addition to uninstalling by using your Add/Remove
Programs, you should ALSO run Symantec's "SynNRT"
found at : http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=&docid=2001092114452606&nsf=nav.nsf&view=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl= . After that is used,
use your computer's "Search" feature, selecting "All files
and folders" & using the search "term" "Symantec" &
later "Norton" and "Delete" everything it finds. If there is
an item that will not be deleted, use "Unlocker" from :
http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ . Then you are ready to
install Avast ; however, since you have Win 2000, there
are some with Win 2000 that are having "trouble" with
Avast according to our thread at : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=21448.0 .

P.S. If you have Ad-Aware SE 1.05, you are 1 version
behind since the latest is 1.06 . Have you been
having any problems battling "malware" recently ?
