Web Shield Scanning Even After Pausing It !!!
« on: February 27, 2006, 07:53:41 PM »
Hello to all :)

Lately I am having some troubles with the Web Shield.
I am playing one online game called BulFleet (www.bulfleet.com) but when I am on this site the Web Shield  Freaks Out. Almost everytime when the Shield start to scan the page http://bulfleet.com/main.php it begin to loop the scanning and it is scanning the page again and again and again, and when the Shield begin to do this my internet connections stops( the Web Shield is "eating" the whole connection)  :P
I found out that pausing the Shield doesn't help - even after I pause the Shield it's still is scanning the page, terminating the Shield solves the problem. Any ideas  :-\

XMAS, as a workaround, as you know, the exclusion list should work...
Pausing WebShield will require, sometimes, the browse start again. Maybe keeping the changes (answering Yes to persist them) and booting...
Did you change the sensitivity level of WebShield using the RejZor's tool?

Thanks for the reply Tech. Yes I've added the address to the exclusion list and that helped( I've forgot to mention it before), but I think that there is some problem with the shield because this is not normal, is it?
Yes, I've change the Web Shield sensitivity level using RejZor's AEC, can this be the problem?

No, it's not normal. Of course, WebShield should 'redirect' the http traffic to scan ('eat' you've wrote) but it should not loop.

Well, could be... Maybe you'll have to uninstall just the WebShield provider and install it again.

OK I've uninstalled, booted, installed it again and booted. Same behaiviour  :-\
So the problem isn't in the changed sensitivity.

Hello XMAS,
I tried to visit http://bulfleet.com/index.php, and no problem here.

Does the scanned files count change (when you think webshield is scanning in a loop) ? Does the (a) Icon spin - in the tray area?
What is the last scanned URL? Is it http://bulfleet.com/index.php ?

Does the problem appear immediately when you visit http://bulfleet.com/index.php, or you have to enter your username, password and actually start to play the game (it seems I have to register there in order to test this possibility...)

Lukas.

Hello lukor and thanks for the reply :)

Yes the "a" icon is spinning like crazy when the Shield start to loop the scanning(even if I pause the Shield it continues to scan). And that happens when it is scanning http://bulfleet.com/main.php. Well the problem doesn't occur everytime when I visit the site. When I log in I play a while and for example if I am on the "My Fleet " Page and I decided to send a fleet to some other player the page automatically redirect the browser to the page http://bulfleet.com/main.php and from there starts the looping  :-\

Hmm, strange.

You might want to try running this tool: http://public.avast.com/~rypacek/userdump.exe

When the problem appears please start it with the following command:

userdump ashwebsv.exe

It will create a memory dump of running webshield process (in the file ashwebsv.dmp). Please upload the file to our ftp server (ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming) and send me a mail about it. We will have a look at the dump if something unnatural is happening there - provided that your browser is not downloading like crazy, it that case it would be more than normal that webshield should be scanning like doublescrazy as well.

XMAS, thanks for the dumps. I am just looking into them.

Anyway I wanted to add a small note for others concerning the fact, that webshield does not stop even when stopped or paused - it does that just after all connections going through it will terminate. Stopping the shield will of course also terminate all downloads in progress - and that is frequently very unpleasant, especially when a big download is in its 90% ;-)

*push*

Got the same problem. I cannot specify the first time of that behaviour, but it could have been after installing a test version of "Steganos Internet Anonym". Uninstalling doesn't solve the problem.

The "eating up" of my internet connection happens when I just log into the net (using dial-up) and not visiting any page. Webshield can only be stopped via terminating the process.
