Real virus infection Vs Avast
« on: June 14, 2006, 03:16:37 PM »
Hello guys!

Lets say that theres a machine that is infected with a real virus (I.E Polipos). The machine didnt had Avast on it or it had but it was not updated.

Avast will be able to clean it after installed even not having the VRDB made?

I mean... Should I clean the infection with other AV and only after that install Avast?

I ask this, because with AVG you only have to install, update and get into safe mode and run... AVG will clean without problems...

Thanks for your time,

Elminster

Actually, avast! doesn't currently clean Polipos (VRDB doesn't really help here, because it uses a tricky method to infect the executables).

But if Avast its already installed and updated, it will be able to prevent the infection on the computer?

For Win32:Polip, avast! has 100% detection of infected files tested by AV-Test.org while some AV's such as AVG, NOD32, eTrust, etc. can't do that but as time goes by everything can change.
