Right-click scan from Windows Explorer does not start
« on: January 11, 2018, 09:22:41 AM »
I'm using the latest version 17.9.2322

Quite recently after one of the previous updates the right-click scan from Windows Explorer stopped working properly. Most of the time I have to restart that scan 2-3 times even for small files and folders.

Is that a bug?

Any fix or tweaking that can be applied?

Thanks.

And a BIG request to the administrators of this forum:

PLEASE change that horrendous verification capcha to another one - it's almost impossible to see what letters are on the images, I had to reload the image ten times to find something that possibly could be recognizable.
Thanks!

No problem here

Try the following:
Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204
If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

I was having a problem with it also where the scan window would not open. Seems with this version the popup scan window has been replaced with a slide up. If you have silent mode enabled, you will not see it. I prefer it the way it was.

Thanks for your reply.

I run the repair and it did not help.

Reinstalled the latest version 18.12326 (downloaded it today) and it's the same problem - the slide up on Windows Explorer scan does not show at all.

Any other ideas how to fix it?

Yes I can confirm that right click scan does not work, whether you repair or do clean install doesn't make difference at least in my case.

I figured out that the only way to see that the scan is going on is to open the UI then right-click on the file or folder to scan. Then the display is showing the scan.
Not a problem here

Also having this problem for past 1-2 days where right click scan shows no popup saying it's scanning or scan complete with green check marker.

It will do it only once and that's when I restart my computer. First scan will have popup then none for any other scans.

It's kind of annoying having to keep the main avast window open, then tab to whatever file/folder to scan, then tab back to main avast window to see it's scan progress.

Tried reinstalling Avast, but it didn't fix as well.

Here's the reply I'v e received from Avast:
"confirmed by QA - it's a bug - fixed already for the next release."
The next release should come out by the end of the month.

It would be better if they would revert to the popup window. It is hard to tell what is going on while waiting for the slide up notification.

Many of us agree with you but it's ultimately up to Avast. :)
