AntiVir detects Avast4/ashDisp.exe as a trojan
« on: June 14, 2006, 08:07:46 AM »
I've been using both AntiVir & avast! simultaneously untill today when AntiVir keeps detecting Avast4/ashDisp.exe as a trojan & bugging me about it. If I select any action for AntiVir it breaks the avast! update. If I re-update avast!, then AntiVir immediately detects it & requires action again. I've removed AntiVir for the time being but I like to use them both, does anyone know how I can fix this?

Hello,

I have the same problem. I work in computer-service, and I have now 3 computers from my clients with identical problem. Now Windows starts 5-10 minutes, have no menus, and system restore not work. Anyone fix this ? Repairing from console also not work.

Latest Antivir and avast! IS NOT COMPATIBLE with each other! It has been discussed in several threads. You need to get rid of one AV: which one to leave - is up to you.

Well ashDisp.exe certainly isn't a trojan, but you can confirm this file at: Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive.
Or VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner

As has been said the new version of antivir isn't able to run alongside avast as it is now a resident on-access scanner and not an on-demand scanner as it was able to run previously. Having two resident on-access scanners installed on your system is likely to cause conflict.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Before you uninstall AntiVir (;D), copy all its installation folder contents to another clean, empty, folder in your computer.
Now you can run Antivir from there without conflicts  8)
Updating needs some tricks to work  :) ;)

Interesting trick, but as second on demand scanner I'm using standalone Dr.Web CureIT program sometimes.  ;)

AntiVir can also be used as an on-demand scanner like this:

Install the basic AntiVir module and Explorer Extension  but not the AntiVir Guard
Reboot
Run regedit and change AntiVirService  to REMAntiVirService (but only if you know what you're doing)
Reboot again

I have no problems with updates with this method, either.

You're right about ashdisp.exe, though.  If AntiVir has an exclusion or ignore list I haven't found it.
