Good news! You no longer need to register

Newer versions of Avast Free Antivirus will no longer ask you to register, and older versions will keep working even after they've "expired".
Good time.
There is a question about the old version  (Avast Free 5.1.864), OS Win7-64 and WinXP-64.

Will the old version work after it has "expired" or not ?

I don't believe Avast 5 is actively supported, yes virus definitions should still work, but there aren't going to be any program updates.  What I don't know is if the 'no requirement to register' function would be supported Or if it would update automatically after a period of time after it had expired.

It is tough to say one way or another as most users on the forums are using later versions of avast.  Your win7 64bit system should be able to run the latest avast version.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

There are many serious reasons NOT to use the latest versions of Avast.

You might not have noticed, my signature below posts, indicates I use XP Pro SP3 (also win7 and win10 systems) and I have the latest avast version.

There might be reasons you feel not to use later versions, but there are also points for their use.
