Hi HK,

Upon your request I was testing my wife's Outlook since late this afternoon and with Outpost firewall  Pro Off. It took a while as it always does (intermittent occurrence ) and it happens again and after that  it took 8 times reopening and closing Outlook before It was able to go through and actually check emails.

As I suspected Firewall is not causing this random disconnection issue.

Thanks

You can't attach files via PM. You can post a link to the files that you've uploaded to another server like

I don't know what role HK plays at avast and if the level of support makes a difference but this particular PM does allow  attachments, it might be size restriction, but it does permits :)

Hi HK,
Sent you PM with requested mail log.

FYI.

I called Rogers and they have not made any changes as far is incoming and outgoing port# they also use SSL encrypted connection so at their end everything its been the same for years.

Also there are no changes to my wife's system, its absolutely the same state as it was for the past 2 years.

Somewhere along the way when avast was been updated some things have changed because this random mail connection interference started about 2-3 months ago.

Hopefully this bit of a information will help.

Thank you for your help

Hi Vapor,

thanks for the log. I can see you are trying to connect to several POP servers and one of them is (seems to me) invalid:

Code: [Select]
[2018-03-21 05:19:17.248] [notice ] [MailShield ] [ 1940: 5748] Cannot connect to POP server 74.6.137.75 (74.6.137.75:995), connect error 10060
Can you ask Rogers whether this is valid POP server? I tried to connect there using telnet (with all avast shields disabled) and it was not possible. Other servers are ok but I don't know if all of them belong to Rogers or another mail provider:

Code: [Select]
[2017-08-26 14:02:06.585] [info   ] [MailShield ] [ 1868: 4464] Connected to POP server 74.6.106.29 995
[2017-10-02 18:02:23.139] [info   ] [MailShield ] [ 1892: 4832] Connected to POP server 74.6.106.14 995
[2017-10-07 13:46:16.610] [info   ] [MailShield ] [ 1872: 4512] Connected to POP server 98.138.122.37 995
[2018-03-21 04:48:11.888] [info   ] [MailShield ] [ 1940: 3044] Connected to POP server 216.155.194.54 995

Thanks,
HK

Thanks HK for your looking into this. I can definitely call them  and I'm quite sure of the answer because  frankly I was thinking weeks ago the same lines  as you do now if  perhaps they use multiple servers and that's why there are issues connecting,,  depending which server chooses to go to, but they assured me back then that they only use 1 serve and they have for the past several years.

I kind of figure, that this might have nothing to do them (Rogers) because every time I will turn  avast's mail shield off, or just SSL scanting  there is not a single glitch, in fact I have been running SSL scanning  OFF since I think yesterday morning or even day before that without single disruption in outlook so that should tell you that something else is blocking the connections and that is  not firewall and I'm almost sure it's not Rogers.

I'm only stating this in hope to make it easier to find the issue and If this sounds rude or disrespectful in any way, I don't mean in the slightest way  ;)

I will call them in a bit and get back with you later on  :)

Thank you HK

OK Update!

Called Rogers and yes they use multiple servers, but that wouldn't make even slightest difference in how my email client connects to any of them, they all use the same encryption which is SSL and the same incoming/outgoing port# and it has been that way for the past several years.

Again, I have never in years had that problem, until recent avast updates.

While talking  to one of the guys from rogers he was gathering the info e.g. what antivirus  I use and if I use hardware or software  firewall,  I have explained to him that I can have firewall off completely and still the same issue, the only way I have absolutely 0 problems is after turning avast's mail shield or SSL off.

He quickly concluded,  which honestly when you consider the steps taking to make outlook work properly  is that something within avast itself and the scanning SSL causing this issue.
I hope this bit of information can help to track down the source of the issue and can be resolve   :)

Thank you HK
Sincerely
