Help Please!
« on: June 17, 2006, 02:41:07 PM »
All of as sudden, Avast will no longer allow usage of Web Shield and Internet Mail.  When I go to the On-Access Scanner, the message is "The provider is waiting for a subsystmen to start." I never had this before.

Normally, I would automatically get 6 providers running at start-up: Instant Messenger, Internet Mail, Network Shield, P2P Shield, Standard Shield, and Web Shield.

Now, Web SHield and Internet Mail give the same message regarding the subsystem.

I am running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 with all updates. I am also running the latest version of Avast, Home Edition.

Thanks for any help.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn't work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
